Why am I being refused?

Another alternative would be to see if one of your parents would take the contract out for you, then you set up a direct debit into their account each month so its still you paying for it.

if your home address has been black listed by you or anyone living there for the pass 10 years (or something like that) Anyone applying for credit and using that address will be refused no matter what your credit score is like.

As posted above speak to Experian as they are one of the two main credit agencies and will be the only ones that can sort it out, weather it's an incorrect address or if your home address has indeed been black listed.

Worth a check anyway if you ask me.

Hope it helps.

I'm only 18 years old and I've *NEVER* had credit/finance before. Could this be down to my 2nd name or something
As stupid as it sounds having a credit card gives you a better credit rating than without as your rating is based both on your history and capability to settle debts.

If you're applying for a phone contract with no obvious means (from your credit history) of clearing bad debts then you will struggle.

I got credit just after I turned 18 so I don't think it's down to your lack of a credit history.

Have you moved house recently? Are you on the electoral roll? Does anyone at your household have a poor credit history?

It could be any number of these - I went with a friend once to get a loan for him and watched as he was refused because he'd moved house just 2 months earlier.

Blacklisting doesn't really happen, but a history of bad credit at your address will have a negative impact. There is no specific time limit on the impact.

I always find it interesting people talking about credit ratings etc etc and this quote always springs to mind:

MoneySavingExpert:

Credit ‘ratings’ and ‘blacklists’ DON’T exist.

You DO NOT have a universal credit rating; nor is there a credit blacklist. It mightn't feel like that though, as while each lender scores differently, the information they use is similar. A bad risk for one lender is often a bad risk for others too.

Most of the credit rating agencies offer customised portals allowing companies to use their rating systems and tailoring them slightly to take into account market conditions and the level of risk the company is happy with.

The time and cost involved in creating a rigorously tested scoring model is too great for most organisations who would lack the knowledge and resources to do so anyway.

As a result, although there is no universal credit rating most are based upon a very limited subset of models all of which rely on the same data.

try three , my wife couldnt get a contract phone in any shops she tried for some reason even on the three network but she applied to three online and got accepted straight away.

my wife doesnt even have a bad credit rating so i dont know why the shops said she couldnt get a contract phone

I was told credit rating was tied to where you live currently and who has been there before, O2 refused my dad but orange accepted him. That's what the guy at the shop said atleast...

Didn't know that. (apparently you learn something each day...)

:)

As soon as I turned 18 I got a sim only contract (less outlay for the company and only a 1 month contract).

Why not get one of these for the minute, pay it on time for a few months to build up a good credit rating with that company and then move onto a regular contract.

This is what I have just done and now have my contract and broadband through O2 and get a cracking deal.

Odd indeed, I applied for a contract phone on my 18th birthday, £35 one when the k700i was brand new. Went through with no problems, same again a month later when I decided to get a credit card.

Might be cause of the situation at the moment?

someones probably said this by now but..

if your not on the electoral register then your possibly not on the credit lists/register

i got refused by all the mobile companys when 18 too and then finally virign mobile told me that might be why. it was why !
