Hi guys.

I've been trying for a contract phone, I've already tried T-mobile, O2 and Orange and they all declined me.

I'm only 18 years old and I've *NEVER* had credit/finance before. Could this be down to my 2nd name or something?

Thanks

It's because you've NEVER had credit. They don't know of you or your history.

Try and get a credit card (and use it properly! :p) and then build up your credit history.

Well that sucks then doesn't it.... How am I supposed to get a credit history is no one will give me credit lol!

I'm sick of paying up to £50 a month on pay as you go when I could be spending £30-£40 a month and getting more mins/texts.

Can't be that - Im on a contract and don't have a credit card.

It could just be something simple like the credit report companies have your details down incorrectly. When I was 18 I was being refused credit, after a bit of malarky on the phone with Experian I eventually found they had my address completely screwed up, to the extent that it wasn't even a valid address.

I was on a contract phone two years ago (I'm still on it) and never had a credit history before. I still haven't used credit cards or got any loans of the sort or anything.

You may have originally been refused for a minor reason, but the subsequent rejections will be because they have seen the applications and rejections on your record.

Applying for credit generally has a negative impact on your credit score and being rjected has one too. The more you apply and get rejected the worse your score will be.

Get a credit card from your bank; they are the most likely people to give you one since they have access to more information that your agency credit rating.

Mobile phones shoudl let you get a contract with no previuse credit. But maybe only the cheaper ones?
Don't try anymore. the more searches against your name, the harder you will find it.

Goto www.creditexpert.co.uk sign up for a free 20 day trial. Pay 5.99 to get your score and see what it is. Then send them an email and cancel the account. Unless you want to pay a monthly fee.

It might also be worth trying it through a third party. Like carphone warehouse. Or one of the many websites.

91 is quite an unusual second name, yes.

I think I tried through Carphone with Orange. Wouldn't it be worth me trying to go through the other contractors instead of directly to the network or would it just equal in the same result?

Cheers

You'll probably have more luck going straight to the network, and asking them about paying a deposit up front (usually a few months line rental).

Your other alternative to a credit card is to set up an account with some product or service that requires a direct debit payment each month, something like a gym membership.

I don't know if it would work the same with phone contracts, but I was once refused a loan because my parents had bad credit, they just went by the address...
