Why are certain types of racism tolerated on here?

On internet forums you get to meet many nationalities. To some I am a pom, to others I am a limey. I won't mention what the Scots call me
I guess I am big enough to not be offended by such trivial words. It always seems to be everyone else but the English that get offended. That must make us special
:D :p

I agree with this. I'm sorry, but we are in 2006, not the 50's or what not when out grandfathers used **** as a racist comment. If a pakistani were to call me a Brit, then why should I not be able to abbreviate his origin?

I have been called a **** in a derogatory manner in this decade so its still there as a racist term.

The short abrv of pakistani and pakistan is Pak, not ****, its akin to someone calling you a Briti :p

Being called a Jock doesn't bother me but it's slang term Sweaty Sock gets my back up just a tad.....I dont find it insulting i just dont like it much :D

Jesus, this thread reminds me of being six years old at school and some kid telling the teacher he was called a "poo head" by another kid.

The reason why such words as Jock etc are allowed is the fact the Mods take the view/stand point of the REAL world- where being called a jock isnt a big deal.

'You're the man Jock' is by no means racist.

'I hate all ******* Jocks' is racist.

Just because you don't like being called a name doesn't mean someone is being racist.

Regards,

Jock.

How the hell are you supposed to know what words offend other people? There's a certain word that would offend me a lot if I were to be called it, but how would people know I find it offensive? But then again they would have no reason to call me it unless they knew and were trying to offend me. Or if I was wearing my glasses, which I prefer not to do in public.

i disagree. unless u have a problem with being from pakistan, then really the term shouldnt be taken in a derogatory manner...some differences for you - Britain can shortened to Brit (the place). also, the nationals of are Britons, which also sounds right being shortened to Brit...

theres a distinction between being a "****", and being from "Pak". hence why the terms are separated. i.e your a Pakistani from Pakistan.

the term "****" also more closesly resembles the abbreviated form of "Aussie" i.e he's from "Oz" or "Aus" but is an "aussie", or "Argie." for an argentine...

whether pakistani's chose to take such great offence to these abbreviations is their perogative. im not sure how it will benefit them however.

**** is just a shortening of the word pakistani, how anyone can find that offensive is beyond me. It's just the same as calling someone a Brit instead of a briton.

When you consider the fact that it was often used more along the lines of 'get out my country you dirty ****' and the term 'brit' is never used like that here, there will always be a difference, however justified/unjustified you may feel it.

Similar to calling a homosexual person a 'fag' (or similar). It's only a word, but it's often found offensive as it was used as a purely offensive term for such a long time.

Yawn!

Conspicuous by his absence now eh? .......... typical Jock, chip on both shoulders. ;)

I quite like the skirt wearing ******* actually! :D
