Why did it have to end so soon :(

My money is on the fact that they needed to get it out the doors for Christmas (and to fight the PS3). Things are fine until a certain point then it all goes out the window.

Still a great game, kinda lost interest in the multiplayer due to me being absolutley useless at it.

No you had your talents, for example you were always the first person I would kill on the other team ;)

Rubbish. It would have been bigger in that we would have waited nearly twice as long on the loading screens. You Sony fanboys are getting crazy recently, going to the weirdest excuses to try and big up your console of choice. Ken Kuteragi quotes getting to your heads?

I noticed the expert replies by most about blueray etc have shut that person up, no doubt by the time games hitting high amounts and need a bigger storage we be on the next gen of consoles anyway.

Why, when it doesn't fill a dual-layer DVD as it is? With 1.3 GB left unused there's no logic to your argument. Plus the levels, enemies and Gears soldiers are all using pretty much the same textures throughout the game. So extra levels mainly require geometry, not masses of new textures, so they wouldn't have required much extra storage. Textures and sound effects account for most of the storage used by a game, not the meshes.

It's pretty clear to me that it was rushed to hit the christmas market and at least a couple of levels were cut, hence why the 2nd half of the story doesn't make any sense. There's no way anyway ever sat down and wrote that story.

Still, I found it excellent overall and worth playing, especially co-op.

If memory serves me right, I don't think Gears of War compressed the textures. Instead, the Unreal 3 engine allows textures to be streamed from disc.

Thats why the textures are so high res (well, compared to anything else available on a console) as they can simply slap it on the DVD uncompressed and just stream it in to video memory when required.

Only problem I can see with this method is that it will take up a lot more disc space. But I suppose the same texture can always be re-used in other scenes.

Might be wrong though! :o

I think its probably right, I mean every game has to get to a certain point where they say "thats enough" there is always more tweaknig and extra stuff can be added, maybe they spent too much time (budget) on the graphics and didnt have time to code half of the levels... Looking at it, I would still prefer it this way, the graphics gave it that wow factor.

Hopefully this new game type will be fun, the multiplayer, which is usually the longest playable part of games these days it a little off, weapon balance is all over the shop imo. But its still quite fun, I need to learn the maps :)

Wow I certainly hit a nerve there. What really gets my goat is how 360 be holding back gta4.

Rockstar certainly can't have one version better than the other so they will have to adjust the bar down to the 360s level. Such a shame :(

Ah well fingers crossed for the exclusive on the next one.

Back on topic, yes it was a great game. Loved the graphics and loved playing co-op mode but yes, too short.
It's people like you and 'him' that cause arguments by arguing over what you know nothing of.

a) It would be just as long, DVD9 had another 2gb+ spare if they wanted to use it.
b) It was never going to be an epic, it was the first of a trilogy.
c) Cost. Games are not cheap, and whilst Gears of War was made cheaper than most at $10,000,000 it goes up more and more with the data you use.
d) 5 Chapters cover the beginning, middle and end. A key element of any story (though Gears of War needed more explaining - this will be in the sequels).

Thats like saying if MotorStorm was on a 100gb disc it would have over 50 original tracks, 1,000 songs and 10,000 cars. It's a made up statistic that you are clueless about. Don't argue over something you know nothing about.

:D :D :D :D

Why cant they have one version better than the other, lots of other multiple format titles are better on the 360....

WHAT?!

The weapons in RFOM were crap.
I am currently just back in Manchester after Grimsby, but the weapons I have used suck ass (as do most of the graphics), but I seriously hope they improve.
