Why did it have to end so soon :(

Installation of games on consoles is already a step in the wrong direction.
I suppose. But it is a nice way of overcoming capacity issues. I wouldn't mind multiple discs at all, especially if it was, say, 1 for multiplayer and 1 for single player.

Edit: Resident evils requiring multiple disks (even on the gamecube) didn't bother me in the slightest, it just seems like PS3 fanatics are clutching at straws to find ways of proving the PS3 is better.

The HAILSTORM, i think its called, that fires out that grenade that hovers in the air, then fires out those spikes that decimate any thing in ther blast range, is good fun, gotta admit though, that blobby mine layer contraption is pants,, but good for a laugh,, oh and the sniper rifle, that slows down time, so you get all those great slow mo, blood spurt kills ;)

Yeah, the hailstorm was pretty cool and the sniper rifle was implemented quite well I admit. There's just no weapon that sticks in the mind; like laptop gun from Perfect Dark or the shrink ray from Duke Nukem 3-D.

I actually used the blobby mine gun quite a bit, especially for dealing with the little bugs.

My only issue with multiple discs is that you don't get double the storage space, it's a lot closer to 50% extra as you need to duplicate code and textures. Having a separate multiplayer disc may limit this somewhat as you don't need duplicate code just so that you can revisit the same area when on the second disc.

It would take literally years to use blue-ray to its maximum capacity for gaming, literally.

The 360 has some great compression techniques and the small format encouranges developers to designer better gaming engines, rather than bloat games out with textures and polygons.

Haha, yes we all know that less storage equals better games

It's not about storage or how many hours a game lasts, it's about how much fun the game is.

Incidentally I played Gears of War for the first time today and thought it was great looking but as far as the gameplay went it didn't seem to be anything special.

The only problems with multiple discs arise with games like Oblivion etc, i.e non linear games which would require too many disc swaps, Installing a game is fine by me, even on a console. unfortunately game developers simply won't go down that route for the 360 because there are too many people with the Core system out there with no HD.

its comments made by johnnyfive and their lack of knowledge that will unfortunatly make PS3 no1 again in the long term, we all know it and how the blind lead the blind

Wow I certainly hit a nerve there. What really gets my goat is how 360 be holding back gta4.

Hah!

The one thing Sony fan boys seem to be forgetting at the moment is with game costs spiralling and the pitifully small install base (re. gta, you really think it will sell well in Japan?) the 360 versions are basically subsidising the PS3 versions. GTA will cost a forture to make, they could probably make some profit on it as a 360 exclusive but on the same on the PS3... it would be tough.

You should be thankful GTA IV, Unreal Tournament 3, Devil May Cry 4 & Final Fantasy XIII ;) are coming to the 360, else we wouldn't be seeing them.

Why? It it was Blu-Ray then it would have been a much bigger game.

Back on topic, yes it was a great game. Loved the graphics and loved playing co-op mode but yes, too short.

Youre assuming the devs had time to develop a bigger game.

Also, if you play a game on easy, its going to seem short as you can just essentially dash through the game, you wont need to rely on cover and you will die less?

GT2 had something like that, they had arcade mode on one disc and Turismo mode on another.

Splitting game modes is a greta way of doing it if possible as it means you won't need to switch discs unless you change the gametype.

you cant deny blu ray or hdd dvd is the future . they cant keep fitting games on dvds forever

yeah sure they dont actually need the space at the moment but in a few years times im guessign they will

or will the next xbox have a dvd drive too

oh and on topic

GOW is good , the graphics are amazing ,

but you cant help feeling its a bit short. reminds me of metal gear solid 2 in that way :(

Gears of War still gets me going back it a great game and it fun trying not to be canon fodder in multiplayer.

Didnt really think the game was to short as a game but the last levels deffinitly dont feel as envolvling as the earlier ones
