Our cat does the padding thing on your lap. She also frequently wants a lap just after you've had a big meal
I find it interesting that cats have so many attributes in them from when they were kittens, since the time spent with thier mum's is very brief. We were lucky enough to see our cat have and raise kittens (many years ago, we don't really know where she's from and didn't realise she hadn't been neutered). I was a bit young to remember it much but they were ace. After a while she let us get near them (she barely trusted us at the time, like I say we don't know what had happened to her before we found her). They are so curious and I remember them climbing up peoples legs and walking behind the washing machine
.
I haven't heard of the double blink thing. Our cat often looks at me with half closed eyes though and I do it back to her. A full stare is a threat as most people know and it can make for much amusement. Generally visitors who like cats will look at them a lot and then they feel threatened; but people who don't like cats avoid looking at them and so the cat feels safest near them. Ours once spent a whole evening sat near a visitor who really didn't like cats
