Under water? You mean water cooled? Expensive and most people won't even attempt it. Most people on this forum don't even have water cooling not even considering the general public. And since Mac's are quiet and can't be overclocked what would be the point in watercooling it?

What is your spec? 5 times faster than the fastest Mac Pro? That will be a great machine if true. Irrelevant of that you are probably in a less than 1% niche that means a Mac isn't suitable.

the mac pro wouldn't have any advantages, and it would still be quicker in gaming probly becasue of the much better gpu.
 
Ok the base model MBP is a similar spec with a 15" screen and it's £100 cheaper or the next MBP (also 15" admitidly) has better graphics and CPU and it's £200 more than that...

It's swings and round-a-bouts to be honest, we could do this all day...

Are BMW's overpriced? Expensive maybe but not for what you get above a Mondeo for instance.

lol that's debatable.

apart from a name/image what do you get extra in a bmw that's worth the cost?

I doubt quality is that much better, so just based on "specs" if you like a bog standard bmw is inferior to a high end ford, but the bmw would still cost more.

It depends what he's using it for. It would have the advantage of being able to play DVD's out of the box ;)

It would be better for gaming but I think all Mac users accept that if you want very good framerates for gaming then a Mac isn't for you.

so when do you ever need 8 cores? and 16gb of ram?, it'd be cheaper just to buy two pc's and a file server.
 
I'll do a deal with you.

I will never even look at a Mac ever again if someone would just get Half-Life 2 working on my computer. Ever since the TF2/Portal/EP2 release I've had nothing but trouble. I've been here since 10pm trying to get it working and that's just tonight. :crys:

I think image is more prominent in the auto industry which affects the situation more. The top end Fords cost more when compared to a similar class afaik. The Focus ST3 costs £18k and the BMW 1 series can cost £16k for instance.

But I think most people in the motors forum will say the quality of BMW is better than Ford. Better residuals, etc as well.

by all means get a mac if you wish, but if a game don't work on a pc it won't work on a mac either.

I totally agree. He's the one saying his is 5 times faster. Why does he need 16gb? That's an argument against very high end PC's not Mac's.
 
I'm not using it as an argument against PC's I'm pretty sure it's a Steam problem. I've just reached the point of not caring any more. I just want the damn thing to work. :o :p

BF2 stopped working for me after either an update or I changed something. I could never play for more than 5 minutes before it crashed. Something to do with drivers probably.
 
I'm not buying a mac just so I can get steam to work. I don't know how you jumped to that conclusion. I was just venting some frustration, it was entirely OT.

There's so much bull in this thread it's hilarious.

I use a Mac because a) They're the standard in my industry and b) I prefer them. No one can sway me either way and I couldn't give a flying **** what anyone else thinks because IT'S ONLY A COMPUTER and it doesn't even remotely matter. I don't care what anyone else uses, I just use my favourite. Everyone else should use their favourite.

Three quarters of the people in this thread need to take a step back and look at what we're actually discussing here. And then get a ****ing grip.

I just specced a Dell Vostro 1700 to the exact same specs (aside from the display; the Dell's was better) as the 17" MacBook Pro (standard config). The MacBook is £1,799, the Vostro was about £922.

Granted, you don't get the aluminium finish, but I'm not sure a metal case costs £900.
