Why do people act like this?

Bad story mate.
What I would suggest, if you feel too intimidated to walk past these lads, is to turn to the nearest man and ask his help. You'll probably shame him into standing up with you and that's the last thing they'll want to see.
Personally, I went to an Orange wednesday yesterday for the first time and turned around before I even joined the long long queue. Me and the missus could see rowdy, noisy, exhuberant teenagers queueing out of the door so we didn't go in and waste our money.
I'm not a trouble seeker but when I've spent a wedge of money for us to go to the flicks and people are acting like dicks I don't tolerate it. I've had foreigners translating the film to each other on the row behind us, teenagers with phones in front of us and giggling girls not giving a **** on the other side of the cinema from us and the closest to a threat I have had to give is telling them I'd come and sit with them if they didn't can it immediately.
Just find that nearest stocky guy and ask his help, I think a lot of people just need a push that's all.

BTW, my wife hates it when I blow, but would hate it even more if I didn't. And most blokes would be too ashamed not to help you in front of their missus I'm sure.

I hate going to the cinema. It took a great act of kindness for me to agree to take my 10 year old brother to see Karate Kid. When we were sitting in the cinema, a really loud group of about 5 or 6 came in. They were making loads of noise, and using a lot of foul language. I went to the toilet, and when I came back my brother said that he'd been hit in the head with a penny.

In the film they kept making loud noises, and using abusive language. People were turning their heads so I knew they were getting annoyed. I decided to take matters into my own and I told them to shut up. bold move, as I am a pussy :p

Then they started to threaten me, and said stuff like "who said it? was it that ****?" A couple looked the same age as me, the rest looked a little younger. But most bigger. Curse my petite physique :o

They didn't make much noise after that. Still more than everyone else put together, but nowhere near as bad as before. I walked out of the film and they were waiting for me outside. They told me to bow down to them and to get on my knees. "NO! I'm not gonna beg!" I said. Then they pushed me into the wall and started punching me, WTF . I wasn't that scared, I knew they wouldn't hit me that hard as it was a public place. But then I looked over and my brother was crying :(

Then I just pushed my past, and grabbed him. At this point the other members of public got involved and the group left.

I'm really sorry, I know that much worse happens, and I'm trying to explain this to my brother. Just needed to vent

Next time I'll keep my mouth shut, now I understand why people don't say anything

I've had to tell people to shut up twice but unless you go face to face then they will see it as a sign of being weak. It also helps to have a police id card also :P In your case it would have been better to get the security guards that most cinemas have nowadays. Regardless it's horrible to have a film ruined by the idiots that tend to go to the cinema just to ruin other people's experience.

I don't know why also but cineworld seem to be the stomping ground of the moronic chav. I never get this when I go into a showcase cinema!

aye if its annoying you it would be them I m sure all they need is some back up and support...if they fight than its up to them its self defense so you can park them on thier ass...

just thinking about it how many chavvs would a marine be able to take down alone?

I ve never had any issue with my local showcase

Problem with going face to face is that it would have ruined other people's experience further.

Its disgusting really and exactly an example of this type of person turning into the majority of the UK morons.

If I was PM i would introduce child labour, so the little ******** would come home so tired that they wouldnt have any energy to go out in their little gangs and stab innocents. They would just want to sleep.

Id also introduce National Service, and shock these little ******** into shape.

Tbh being called a **** is nothing, and you should be able to handle that nonsense no bother, but being properly set upon is something different.

How many was there? Did you have a proper go at them?

I would probably take on up to four of these gangsta wannabes on my own, but any more, and its fighting a losing battle. As long as you left it with your head held high, thats the main thing.

The fuzz should be involved too, so you can ID them on CCTV or something.

Still sickening tho. Really is.

Where was this?

Sorry to hear mate. To be honest I would have probably just sat down, shut up and kept my head down. Well done for taking a stand.

As would most people.

At the end of the day, these people could have knives or god knows what else.

Is it really worth risking your life potentially for an inconvenience while at the cinema?

I'm not saying people shouldn't stand up for themselves, but the reward rarely outweighs the risk. These are sad times that we live in.

I thought about it. The chances were slim that they were carrying weapns. Even slimmer that they would have used them. As I said, they wouldn't have done anything like stabbing me there. They would have been nabbed. There were lots of people around. My brother said that he wasn't enjoying the film because they were disruptive, and to me that just isn't on.

Also, so many times I've read stories on OcUK about members telling people to pack it in, and it's worked, I hoped it would be the same this time

It's Harrow, that **** NEVER works! :\

One of the main reasons I moved out of there, the entire city centre is infested with *rhymes with bankers*.

Do you only have the one cinema? The opening of a new cinema with slighly higher prices has been awesome. All the chavs and rowdy teenagers go to the old Odeon which is cheaper and even cheaper now due to the new cinema. The new De Lux is a chav-free zone :)

Of course, all situations are different.

It most certainly is not on and I fully appreciate you stood up to them with the best of intentions, but unless you are a massive guy built like a brick wall (or a ninja :p), a group of mates (read: morons) will rarely be intimidated.

Me and one of my friends had a not too dissimilar thing happen a few years ago, there were a group of idiots being annoying and my friend just knocked out the 'ringleader'.

They all looked terrified all of a sudden, it was an epic moment.

That is quite risky though, I would advise against it!

That's always been my problem. People don't respect or fear me, as I'm 5'4 and 7.5 stone. I suppose next time I'll ignore it and let the big boys handle it.

I went to watch Inception and it was completely ruined by a couple of middle aged drunks in their 40s/50s , not even bloody teenagers, this was the complaint / reply i sent to Odeon.

They said they would react if people complained, so if its an issue give it a go, in my case i waited till the end of the film before confronting them and it nearly ended in violence & i walked away before i did something i regret ( im actually 6ft and 18 stone so size isnt normally a problem, although i hate violence and havent had a fight since school, but the image often works) .

If its ruining the film , risk losing 5 mins of it to complain loudly to the staff , maybe it will work - i havent tried it yet , i normally go straight to obnoxious and threatening which although has worked so far, i know one day soon it wont end well ..

Anyways imagine a fat northern chavvy ****head **** up shouting "Eh Leo listen to Ellen Page" and similar horribly unfunny comments throughout the film.

Dear ....

Can i ask what your policy is on people disrupting a film showing ?

I recently tried to watch Inception and had the film completely ruined by 2 drunken idiots, taliking , shouting out at the film and using mobile phones.

Even worse these were not teenagers in a late night showing, this was 2 "adult" men in their 40's at a 5pm showing.

They both were drinking alchohol throughout the film and i could see people sat around them looking very uncomfortable. Clearly no one wanted to confront them.

If this happens will your staff remove them if someone complains ?

Completely ruined what i'd imagine was one of the films of the year.

Can i ask why you no longer patrol showings and make no attempt to stop such appalling behaviour ? There was a time when this would not be tolerated full stop, yet these days there is no one to stop them and they clearly know this. Its yet another nail in the coffin of the cinema experience for me, somewhere i visit less and less due to this.

Yours sincerely
....

Dear ....

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your recent experience at ..... I am sorry about that it was not up to our usual high standards.

We do remove guests that are causing a disruption and ruining the experience for others. We do not allow alcohol to be taken into screens, and they must have hidden such items when entering the cinema.

Screen checks are undertaken every 30 minutes and we try our best to eliminate such issues, however it is possible to miss such behaviour. Other guests may highlight the issue to us, but we appreciate that they do not want to miss the film.

I am very sorry for the problems you have encountered but I assure you that such incidences are rare at .....

Please feel free to contact myself if you have any questions or require further information.
