Why do people act like this?

I've been to the cinema twice in the last 7 years. Both times it was ruined by other people, one time it was the usual disgusting chav scum, the other time it was a load of middle-aged women who were constantly gossiping throughout the film. I honestly don't know why people still bother going to the cinema in this country.

I went to watch Inception and it was completely ruined by a couple of middle aged drunks in their 40s/50s , not even bloody teenagers, this was the complaint / reply i sent to Odeon.

They said they would react if people complained, so if its an issue give it a go, i my case i waited till the end of the film before confronting them and it nearly ended in violence, i walked away before i did something i regret ( im actually 6ft and 18 stone so size isnt normally a problem, although i hate voilence and havent had a fight since school, but the image often works) . If its ruining the film , risk losing 5 mins of it to complain loudly to the staff , maybe it will work, i havent tried it yet , i normally go straight to obnoxious and threatening which one day soon wont end well ..

Anyways imagine a fat northern chavvy **** ****ed up shouting "Eh Leo listen to Ellen Page" and similar horribly unfunny comments throughout the film.

Ok thanks, I'm going to write a similar letter of complaint :)

Reminds me of the time I went to the showcase in Peterborough to see casino royale. This guy walked in with 2 girls and all the way through the adverts and trailers this guy was shouting thing from "give us a sweet!" to "**** me off!". It was like he was intentionally waiting for the quiet bits to shout something. When the film started and he kept on doing it the guy sat behind me tutted, stood up and walked off. Presumably he complained as a couple of minutes later a member of staff walked in with a camcorder in his hand. He stood right at the front of the cinema with the camera pointing at the guy. Presumably he was collecting evidence. You would have thought this would have made the guy shut up but no. He sat there shouting "why's he got a camera!?" and "he's filming me!". The staff member then walked out and shortly returned with the manager who then escorted the guy out. This got a small round of applause from some people. One of the girls who was with him went with them and the other stayed in the cinema. A few mins later the guy returned and I heard her mention something about the police and then they both left too.

The guy who walked out who presumably complained never returned. I guess he was either given a refund or moved to the slightly later showing.

As mentioned above, I prefer to go the Leicester showcase deluxe now. Doesn't seem to attract the chavs. and the seats are a lot more comfortable :)

You did what everyone else should have done. If it happens again, repeat the same action. If I saw 6 obnoxious guys picking on 1 person, I'd step in. Being 6ft5 and around 16 stone helps though.

I've just written this complaint letter:

Hello,
Today I watched Karate Kid at 3:40 with my 10 year old brother. I am 16. There was a group of about 5 or 6 people who came in being loud and using abusive language. There were around 14-16 years old.

Before the film they had some trouble with the member of staff as they were in the wrong seats and were not being polite. My brother says that somebody threw a penny at him. I am very sure it was someone from this group of people.

During the film, they were very loud and disruptive, and their language was foul and violent. I could tell that people were getting annoyed, but nobody did anything. I myself was unable to go and tell a member of staff, as I could not leave my brother on his own, and I did not want to miss the film. Not to mention I was right at the end of the row, against the wall. So I told them to shut up, as I was very fed up. They then hurled insults and threats at me, but were quiet after that.

After the film, I walked out and the group were waiting for me at the entrance to the screen. They shoved me against a wall and a couple of member started punching me. It was enough to make my little brother cry. The public helped to stop them and they walked away and then ran off.

I am frustrated that no members of staff were present during the film, nor was any of their behaviour caught on the cameras in the screen room itself. I would like to request that there is a member of staff present in each screen during a film, so that in future people like this are unable to disrupt the experience for other people.

I am very frustrated that this incident occurred, I am going to find it difficult to continue seeing films at the cinema because of the chance of my film being ruined by loud, abusive and disruptive people.

Thanks very much

I forget about formality, when I'm writing emails :p
Thanks lads, changes made. What'd be really helpful is if someone could also send an email and say they saw the incident, or something like that :D

Its worth a go, i doubt it will change anything , the only chance now is either other members of the public ganging together to to stop it as it happens, or getting staff involved straight away , which most people avoid as they dont want to miss the film.

Sounds like a truly horrible experience, i cant really imagine what your 10 year old brother must have thought. For what its worth i'd have jumped in, but then again i try to goto to showing these days where i know no one else willl be there, hence the next 6 weeks i wont be touching the cinema during the daytime.

Whenever i went as a teenager(a long long time ago) , there was always a number of very scary hefty northern women staff stopping this sort of behaivour, but those days are long gone. Ok the seats hurt, the sound was crap, the picture was scratched to hell, but at least you got respect (and an Ice Cream at the half way point :) )

Best resolution to a "Dicks in cinema" incident I've seen was a chap walk upto said offenders, ask them politely if they wouldn't mind keeping it down only to be repaid with abuse. Thus, he calmly walks back to his seat, picks up his ridiculously sized cup of coke and throws it into the midst of aforementioned gaggle of *****, resulting in it exploding spectacularly all over them. :D

Harrow Vue yeah?

Harrow is full of disgusting little bumholes with nothing to do but cause trouble and act hard in front of their mates/little slags.

I know the guy in the middle and his brother with the skinhead stood just behind him.

Hes the father of my best mates sisters first kid!

It's Harrow, that **** NEVER works! :\

One of the main reasons I moved out of there, the entire city centre is infested with *rhymes with bankers*.

I've always been under the impression that Harrow (on the hill) is supposed a nice, maybe even posh area. That's what my geography teacher said

The worst part of that story was reading about your little brother. It's just a pathetic that so many people behave like this towards their fellow man. It's almost always down to the parenting, or lack of, and thus, incredibly difficult to reverse.
