Why does grated cheese taste better?

Sliced > Grated
Pepsi > Coke
Rectangle > Triangle
Square crisps > all other crisps ever (except wheat crunchies)
Straight > Crinkle
Mechanical > Quartz
.44 > .357
Real pie > Meat soup with a hat
Hair > Bald
Crispy toast > Soggy toast
Ale > Lager

What have I missed?

Id say about 50% of a foods appeal is down to its texture, and this is certainly true with cheese. When you undercook or overcook food one of the first things that you loose is the desirable texture. This is true with almost everything. There aren’t many people who like their eggs solid in the middle, roast potatoes soggy, meet dry and tough, bacon stringy, custard lumpy etc. Grated cheese just feels nicer on the pallet than sliced cheese.

Or I could be talking rubbish. :o
