Why GPU prices are NOT likely to drop significantly EVER!

They are dropping, I saw 3060's for £440 (gigabyte gaming LHR - triple fan) at another retailer. Was very tempted to buy one..

Kid brain : wow only £440 for a 3060 ! quick ! quick !
Adult brain : ONLY £440 ??

Definitely dropping. A brief scan suggests something like £50 since last week.

3060ti are not dropping at all. Cheapest I've seen is £599 but sold out immediately. Cheapest available right now is £750. That's more expensive than some 3070tis...!!!

There's been 3060ti's available somewhere @ £699 for a couple of weeks now. At this rate the market could be saturated by next month :D

only reason for not dropping fast is gamers are paying inflated prices, miners arent buying, the crypto is dying for time being, when this happens, there is zero incentive to reduce prices, gamers have the fomo factor, or the need to buy, if folk didnt buy the prices would fall, simple economics, aka suppy and demand

Its turning out to be cementing the flood theory was just wishful thinking. If you looked on alerts yesterday OcUK had some 3060Ti's flash up so I took a look. If you seen the prices of them you might be shocked. If you think one of these for > £700 is reflecting the 'its the miners, once it crashes all the prices will tumble' then your sadly mistaken.

These were £1100 though in May at the height of the crypto so prices have dropped. Now it's just the gamers who need to hold their nerve and refuse for buy if they want cheaper prices.

£700 for a 3060Ti? Lol.

All these articles use the same source, which is an OK indicator, but not much better than OK.

There's no median or distribution to really work with, so it makes to hard. Maybe the outliers are consistent, but the mean/median price is still falling. Maybe not.

To be clear, it is awesome they have put together their tracking of German prices, their graphs are great and there is definitely validity. It just shouldn't be treated as a global trend, rather an indicator from Germany.

Last week there was a decent FE drop at MRSP.
There are over 10+ 3070's on overclockers sitting there at £900. Same card has been available elsewhere for almost £100 cheaper.
As other models restock the prices will start coming down.
Even scalping prices are coming down.
It wont be a fast process but Im sure in 6 months time whilst we may not be at MRSP we should be seeing far more stock at more reasonable prices.

Exactly.. but err its mining... except that market crashed two months ago.. still waiting for this epic flood (which was always a myth). To me the longer it continues the more it was likely the supply chain and scalpers being the issue (check consoles and random hardware as you cant mine on them and they still had their issues).

Its illogical regardless of your selected lenses. A 3080 could go for £1100 just maybe.. but a 3060Ti should never be more than a 3070 which should never be more than a 3080.. do you get what Im saying?

If any lower tier card is more expensive than its one above then simply do not buy it! That is common sense. One or two might sell to desperate folk but OcUK and other retailers should not be clearing stock at these prices. Or is it still the miners that are buying them?

Prices are going down but slowly now, like others said give it a few months and I think we will be able to buy new cards at a little above msrp

Well 3080s were £1800+ and £3070s £1200 so regardless of what you think the drop off of mining demand has had an effect but since mining demand wasn't the sole reason for higher prices the prices haven't dropped all the way to msrp but more to a level that some desperate gamers are willing to pay but as fewer people remain that are willing to cough up over the odds then we will see a gradual reduction between now and the end of the year and will likely end up below msrp early next year once the difficulty bomb and POS brings a large influx of cheap ex mining cards to the second hand market which new sales will have to compete against.

Yes there will be less appetite now as we have had nine months of gamers buying up a new card, but the market has not changed much since threads were started some months back about when the crypto fallout occurs expect a mass exodus and cards falling out of the sky raining.. it hasn't happened and from the current prices listed (as you mention quoted above) we may have to wait till end of the year to see some impact at all. If your not careful then the Super editions will arrive or not much beyond that people will be preparing for the 40 series lineup.

Crypto is still reasonably profitable so we won't see a mass sell off by miners just yet but what we have seen is miners are not buying up every card the second it becomes available nor are they willing to pay 3x msrp for a card like the 3080 when that card will only bring in a profit of about £100 a month at current rates minus electric.

The crypto price is also effecting gamers looking to pay over the odds then offset the price with a bit of side mining in their downtime.

It may not be “ending anytime soon”, but it is improving, and prices are definitely dropping as supply starts to flow. The premise of the original post was that prices would not drop back ever. They are dropping. It may not be as fast as we would wish, but they are dropping and they will continue to normalise slowly over time.
