Why GPU prices are NOT likely to drop significantly EVER!

With the news the 40 series will have a 10% hike (for 70 and 80/90 even higher), assuming that's the FE versions, we'll get the same shortages and then the third party versions will be even more expensive.

thats not to bad in the great scheme of things my shopping has gone up about 20% a week in the last three months

the world is going to hell on a handcart atm

Best card I've ever owned in 25 years. For the performance I have no issue with the price.

It's the card everyone wanted and I now see why. It is superb, build quality, temperatures, everything. I was going to wait a week or two to sell my 2080 but this is so good, I've put the 2080 up for sale today. I also found my old 5850 today too, so I have a spare if I needed to RMA. What I wasn't sure about was temperatures with it being an FE card, but I needn't have worried. They really improved their FE coolers this generation, tops out at 70c. Fantastic card.

Just a shame you can't buy them more readily :(

Whilst I hear you and agree to an extent, £650 quid for a mid range card? The jobs screwed!
It isn't mid range though. Ignore the 3090 as the price is stupid and gamers are paying for ram they will never use. So that card may well not exist for gamers.

The 3080ti is a hot house which only has a noticeable impact at 4k...in many cases unobservable without bench tools. And if £400 more.

Top of the range should show marked increased from the level below...neither of them do.

Yup the cooler is a piece of functional art. That said I still binned it for water cooling :)

I wince @ £400 for a GPU, paid £300 for a b grade 1080ti which frankly I thought too much, when you factor in everything else required to build a gaming PC, a current console looks so very appealing (not that I have one - yet!)

Yet the 1080 Ti came out in 2017.
The 3080 is about x1.8 the performance but VRAM went down to 10GB from the 11GB of the 1080 Ti.
Released in the same years as the new consoles, I cannot see 10GB being enough. 24GB of the 3090 might be excessive but 10GB is far too low IMO for a card which sold as being above mid-range.

Now that is something I'm reluctantly beginning to accept. Ever since I was a lad I've always promoted pc gaming over consoles, mainly because I'm a graphics whore. But consoles now do truly look spectacular.

But I'm an anti Sony hardware house. And an Xbox is kinda pointless if you have a pc. So it'll never happen..unless my lad nags enough..but be loves PC too.

I've always compared the GPU price to the console price. Never against the full cost of the PC. Mainly because I use my PC as a PC..not just games.

Helps me sleep at night :-)

Simply not the case. It'll be fine for 3 year easy. Odd game sponsored by amd might stretch it...but who gives a #&£@? Turn a setting down. And it'll probably only effect 4k too...

Remember all the cards sold with less than 10gb....developers need to make games work for all.

It's higher mid range if it is mid range though and the performance at 1440p between it and the 3090 is really not worth the extra the 3090 would cost. That's only really a good purchase if you're using for gaming and productivity.

Jensen demo'd it and it was the 'flagship'. Its not mid range.

It's bottom of the top of the range. Ignore the 3090. As gamers are buying what they don't need.

So it's only the 3080ti that is above it. Hot. And at 1440p barely noticable.

The 3080fe is the best card. Plus it's a unicorn.

Yeah, I always had the idea that the high end went 3080 --> 3080ti --> 3090 and mid range went 3060 --> 3060ti --> 3070 --> 3070ti. That was my understanding given the little performance difference between the top 3.

If you brand the 3090 a waste, unfortunately you need to class the 3080Ti same.

3080FE is the best value card period. As you say @lnoton its unfortunately a unicorn as flashes out of stock so fast. Main reason people picked up the 3090FE was it was in stock for long periods at first. Little did people think they would be still waiting months later for stock - so some bit the mugs edition bullet! ;)

Ed - @heatonpkmassive the 3080Ti has not been out long and was shoehorned in to milk the 3080 regular wannabe's of their cash.

At launch it was only 3070 > 3080 > 3090 and the 3070 was around December IIRC so first few months only 3080/90 were available.
