Why GPU prices are NOT likely to drop significantly EVER!

I vote that prices will fall over the course of 2022, for reasons that would take ages to type.
There's too many factors to have any confidence in any prediction, tbh. People can guess and be right, but that's just dumb luck.

Who knows what's ahead for 2022. Brace for more pain would be my suggestion.

Ed - @heatonpkmassive the 3080Ti has not been out long and was shoehorned in to milk the 3080 regular wannabe's of their cash.

At launch it was only 3070 > 3080 > 3090 and the 3070 was around December IIRC so first few months only 3080/90 were available.

Yeah, forgot about that. I'm sure they changed their way of releasing, I always thought previously the XX80 cards came out first and the Titan after. But in that instance, they brought the powerhouse out from the off. I'm no good at remembering stuff though, so might not have that right :)

Simply not the case. It'll be fine for 3 year easy. Odd game sponsored by amd might stretch it...but who gives a #&£@? Turn a setting down. And it'll probably only effect 4k too...

Remember all the cards sold with less than 10gb....developers need to make games work for all.

Well, it keeps coming back to this:
"why do I game on PCs?"
To be able to use mods.

Skyrim Aldrnary (Wabbajack installation with about 1,800 mods):
Full PC Part Picker setup is here. I would recommend atleast 8GB+ of VRAM for 1080p, and for 1440p you will need a minimum of 10GB of VRAM, although more is highly recommended. There are tweaks at the bottom of this readme for 6GB of VRAM users, but they void support. I do not have stable 60FPS on 1440p everywhere with my setup because, frankly, I do not care about framerate if combat is fluid and I can take sexy screenshots. The average is 60FPS with dips in 50FPS in very few areas at 1080p because my screen is a 3840x1080p (no I don't play in ultrawide, that's pointless and no support will be offered for that either).

So what does this mod pack require to run at 4K then?

Low end cards are coming from AMD (6500, 6500xt), Nvidia (2060 - dec 7, 3050 ti, 3050) and Intel Alchemist, all in first half and with them all being a smaller die there should be a lot more of em (if they havent used all the wafers on 3090's, 6900's etc).. fingers crossed.

There's a lot of randomness here, but we can make decent predictions. Just I'm not willing to put in the writing hours haha

Only issue I have with this is if you already have a good pascal or a mediocre turing type card, you could be downgrading performance if you think a 6500/3050/budget alchemist card is somehow better because its newer.

1. GPU prices are still VERY high, Lol!
The Gigabyte 6700xt I bought almost a year ago for nearly £700 (£680) was a crazy price But its even higher looking at shops
around the net!

2. I warned you folks early last year about Massive inflation incoming, most of you didn't take any action and now you have
lost a big chunk of your life savings by staying in cash/credit! (bank, high interest account or investment etc)

ABC news headline from last week, "US inflation highest in 40 years, with no letup in sight"
ABC interviewed Courtney Luckey 33, she said could fill up a grocery cart for $100 but now this fills barely half the cart!

3. You are being robbed of your savings by the inflation tax due to a collapsing currency!
Food, petrol, building materials, ddr5 and just about everything across the board is going up.

4. Crude oil runs almost everything which I said before and is over $90!
My prediction for this year is that crude (WTI) will likely go past $100
My other prediction for this year is that food prices will accelerate upwards due to fertiliser costs and other factors.

5. I've been going on about stocks then housing markets collapsing, well the inflation will knock them out just like
Mike Tyson knocking out his opponents!
Be warned if those two go then we are looking at all the other financial markets imploding and razor wire around the doors and
windows time. Not good at all so best it is delayed as long as possible

6. Heed the warnings people, I have been trading for a long time as well as being a programmer. :)

This is somewhat a worse case scenario.

Don't forget the cost of carbon taxes! Carbon unit prices in Europe and around the world have increased by around 40% in the last 6 months alone and that affects the price of almost anything that emits CO2 in its production process or supply chain

You didn’t warn anyone, people already knew so don’t start spouting ******** thinking you’re the holy grail of GPU information.

Don't worry we can invest all our money into speculative Ponzi schemes, which work out great when they are on the upswing, but when they collapse you get wiped out.

Most of the wealthy in the world, put everything into tangible items such as land, etc for a good reason but we all know that. The sad thing is most normal people really can't hedge as well, because they don't have "free" money which can they can put into high return investments which are generally more risky,or need a few months or probably years to mature. They need the extra money to use right now,or need to save up to buy a new boiler, car, etc they might actually need to have a normal functioning life. Plus the issue is the more volatile the investment the greater the return, but also the greater loss. Basically the old adage....only invest what you can lose still stays true.

That is the issue with all these Nostradamus type predictions - as usual its those who are wealthy,or have very little outgoings/family commitments who can actually benefit from these hedges. Hence for most people it makes no difference either way. Its like telling someone if they buy rice in 40kg bulk bags it would be cheaper, but they can barely afford 1KG packs of rice at anyone time. Or buy a £1000 dGPU and mine some cryptocoin and you will make £1000s more. Not great if you don't have that sort of spare money for a PC,or are not willing to take a loan as a hedge to do so.

The ones with more disposable income always end being better off either way. Being relatively wealthier saves you money. Being poorer means you get poorer more and more, and that is the VAST majority of the world's population.

The World Inequality Report said that 2020 saw the steepest increase in billionaires' wealth on record.

Meanwhile, 100 million people sank into extreme poverty, the report from the Paris-based World Inequality Lab said.

The richest 10% of the population now takes 52% of global income and the poorest half just 8%, it said.

The 228-page report, whose authors are part of a group founded by renowned economist Thomas Piketty, also said that since 1995, billionaires' wealth had risen from 1% to 3%.

"This increase was exacerbated during the Covid pandemic. In fact, 2020 marked the steepest increase in global billionaires' share of wealth on record," the report said.

The world's richest 1% has taken more than a third of all additional wealth accumulated since 1995, while the bottom 50% captured just 2%.

"After more than 18 months of Covid-19, the world is even more polarised," Lucas Chancel, co-director of the World Inequality Lab, based at the Paris School of Economics, told the Agence France-Presse news agency.

"While the wealth of billionaires rose by more than €3.6tn (£3tn), 100 million more people joined the ranks of extreme poverty," said Mr Chancel, noting that extreme poverty had been previously falling for 25 years.

This is why the top few percent of the world's richest people are gaining more and more of a percentage of the planet's economic wealth despite our global economy growing. That is with an increasing world population too. You do the maths - it only means us plebs on average are getting less and less! :(

This is why people need to stop defending all these companies jacking up pricing. Their workers are not benefiting it appears, but the top few are.
