Why is AMD quiet about black screens on 290x?

£25 sounds excessive, the boxed cards don't way more than 2kg as long as you get them in a box that's no bigger than 61cm long 45cm wide and 45cm deep it should cost £11 special delivery which is covered for £500.

I boxed it in the box Overclockers sent it in, with the same bubblewrap. They said it was 9 grams over, and this was central London about fifteen minutes ago so i didn't want to start taking 9 grams of bubble wrap out of the box and upset all the people in the queue behind me.

Ah well.

Just uninstalled the Beta 9.2 including the CCC, audio-driver etc. and installed the inofficial R9 290X 13.11 WHQL instead. With the 9.2 Beta, I got crashed after like 2 minutes after joining a game - now I was able to play an hour of GRID 2 and 30 minutes of BF4 multiplayer (150% res scale 2xmsaa ultra FHD) flawlessly. This wasn't (and I tested a lot) even near possible with the Beta 9.2-drivers.
I'll do some campaign 200% Res-scale & 4xMSAA-tests in the evening though.

I know many people say the blackscreens just get temporarily fixed by switching the drivers but for me, it's at least reducing the issue and I can just _game_ on now, as far as it goes ;)

I've just weighed my sapphire 290 boxed it comes out at 1.840kg which is under the 2kg cut off for £11 royalmail over 2kg shoots up to £25.

Now add bubble wrap and a postage bag for example, those will easily add more than 160 grams to the total weight. I posted a CPU, Motherboard and Stock HSF using Royal Mail today. I spent easily 30 minutes packing and re-packing it to ensure it didn't breach the 2KG rule. :)

People should always check on Interparcel for stuff like that. They will take heavier packages, come and collect, and usually for less money than Royal Mail.

I have just sent my Sapphire 290 back to ocuk, it cost £11 for next day special delivery insured up to £500. I am going to buy another but different brand so I will let you guys known if its the same or not, I've got 2 different PCs to test it in that won't have been changed since this one left me, Intel and AMD based.

The box over clockers used was seriously battered so I wrapped the cards box up in a lot of bubble wrap air bags then wrapped that up total weight was 1.890 on my scales which must be out a little as when I got to he postie it weighed 1.835kg.

Well, I accidentally managed to print out a really old RMA form (via an amazing GMAIL search mishap) going to Overclockers old address :)
So, i had to run down to the Post Office before they sent it, recover the parcel and stick another ****ing label on it - i got them to check the weight again and it was definitely over, but i just couldn't be bothered to change it as this card is cursed or something and i just want to get rid of it before i'm impaled by a chuch lightening rod like Troughton in the Omen.

God at least you caught it before it went. The trick to keeping these under 2kg is to wrap he box in lots of bubble wrap hen just wrap that with a parcel bag or whatever they should stay under 2kg then.

Inter parcel and all those companies are cheaper under 2kg also I've used citynlnik through them for some years now but I didn't want to wait for collection tomorrow I would rather get it sent off today.

Elpida and Sapphire are probably just more prevalent because of cost, Elpida seems to be in most people's cards and Sapphire were the cheapest, they are also perhaps the most popular brand among the masses but we'd have to ask Gibbo to confirm that.

Sapphire accounts for over 75% of our sales on R9 290 series.

We've seen black screen on Asus, MSI and sapphire, but all three only when over clocked quite far.

It seems to be an OC / software issue, though it's a little harder for us to test as we can't sit and play games for hours.

Mine black screened at stock clocks in both bf4 and heaven 3.0 it seemed for me using afterburner helped prevent the problem I only saw it at stock clocks when I didn't use afterburner!

I can see plenty of posts from people getting it at stock. Its not an oc issue, granted over clocking probably can cause it but theirs plenty of evidence its not limited to over clocked cards my own card been one of them and rangers card. I can tell you this aswell even if you make it happen whith an over clock it doesn't need to be a high over clock going an extra 50mhz on the memory isn't much of an oc at all.

Can you guys try to lock the memory to 3D speeds and see if you still black screen? There are two ways to do it:

1) You can run the older gpu-z 0.7.3 and then play a game or whatever. Yes the games will take forever to start or alt tab, but the card won't clock back down.

2) You may be able to force 3d speeds by clicking 'without power play support" under unofficial overclocking in afterburner but that's going off what someone else said, so I don't know if that works.

Hey Gibbo, l am hoping it is a software issue as l really don't wish to RMA this card, however it black screens at stock within minutes of starting the test range and the card will then work normally after a reset off/on cycle of the system.

And on a side note, need to get the anti-static bag back from my mate as he is now the proud owner of my HD 7970.
