Why is AMD quiet about black screens on 290x?

I have never had a problem with OCUK returns , i always phone and explain my problem or issue, i am always polite and friendly and i ALWAYS get the same in return.

Overclockers offer 7 days DSR and an extra 7 days satisfaction guarantee.

Once you have got an RMA number you get 28 days to return befor your RMA is invalid.

I am returning both my 290x's simply because i have tried to live with them but i honestly cant, i expected more than this for the money i spent, Dont get me wrong the 290x is fast, however its flawed, the cooling is sub par and inconsistant , if i had paid £300 per card i wouldnt be worried but with the black screen issue thrown in which could either be a hardware/ bios issue or a driver related one really put the final nail in the coffin for me.

I have used both my BF4 codes , one for myself and one i gave to a friend , i told OCUK this and i'll lose £80 on my refund which is more than fair as far as i'm concened.

Hmm. I was not offered the same deal. Interesting.

If you persist there's no way they can refuse a DSR and as somebody said elsewhere the worst you'll get is a knocked off amount from your refund. I think £25-30 would be more reasonable myself but you can negotiate this. They are breaking the terms of the DSR if you try to return within 7 days and they refuse. If they refuse between 7-14 then this is more of a grey area as it is their discretion to extend the terms of the DSR but as it's plastered everywhere I doubt they'd refuse if you spoke to a manager or raised it to the attention of Gibbo / 5UB / Bailey on here.

Actually your wrong , OCUK can refuse DSR, the BF4 special editions didnt include a free copy of BF4 (unlike the never settle promo of free games) , its a bundled part of the package :-

Exceptions to the right to cancel :-

The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000
You are here:

2000 No. 2334
Regulation 13

(d)for the supply of audio or video recordings or computer software if they are unsealed by the consumer;

This is why the BF4 codes are concealed.

However as i said , if your friendly and explain your position they will bend over backwards to help .

Stock is 1.25v-

Have you tried running at 1.25V with 800-900 core speed? it's to test my theory that some GPU's are so poor quality/high leakage that they're driving VRM's too hard, so overvolting won't help. :p

There were a lot of problems with high leakage Piledrivers pushing motherboard VRM's too hard (higher than normal TDP) until vendors like ASRock/MSI etc put throttling mechanisms in.

Now finding out early adopters wont be getting Battlefield 4 either, mine is going back to OCUK tomorrow, I will just stomach the return postage and wait for the refund and buy a different brand 290 and claim my battlefield 4.

If by some cruel turn I get another faulty card I will send that back and just leave buying one regardless of how much I like its in game performance.

Yes but the software is part of a physical package and the 'software' is in fact a code which is unsealed and placed loose in the parcel / box. They can't refuse the DSR and haven't done in the past when game codes were used by the person who bought it.

And it's 'you're' :p.

Gibbo has said that the new stock price of the 290X with BF4 included is above the current price so expect that increase to be passed on to the customer. Considering you can get keys for BF4 for £25-30 I don't think it's economically viable to pay the return postage and then re-buy a higher cost card at a later date.

I have just read on [H] that people are not able to reproduce the black screen in DX9-only games, even after extensive hours of gameplay with overclocked cards.

COD4 (MW1) is DX9-only and can be used to test with.

Sorry it's late and I cba going threw all of these pages but is this black screen something that's only in BF4 or other games too ? I ask because I sometimes get a black screen all of a sudden in BF4 on my new GTX780. Alt Enter twice and I'm back into the game. I can't make my mind up if it's a driver issue or game issue and after seeing the odd thread in here talking about a black screen, it's got me thinking...

Have a look at your event logs and see if the display driver is crashing.

That's actually a very good point. Does the black screen occur with games other than BF4 as well?

Guys. I put my 7970 back in, and its so relieving. It just works, 1300/1750 in BF4 no problem. 7970s are DAMN SOLID CARDS.

RMAing my 290x, hopefully im getting a Hynix card next time :/
