Why is AMD quiet about black screens on 290x?

Ok, I'm getting infuriated now :mad::mad:

Today Windows 8 64Bit blue screened 6 times before I started messing about with the OS and drivers. It seems to be when I either transition into a game or when the game I'm playing is idling.

So far I've ripped out all the drivers and done a clean in safe mode, then I wiped Windows 8 and reinstalled it using the latest Catalyst Drivers. My motherboard isn't on the very latest bios but the latest one only adds additional CPU support compared to my current version.

After all that no change, Windows 8 either crashes or the Catalyst driver dies. I'm not sure what else I can do. Its a MSI Radeon 290X BF4 edition, is this a RMA at this point, do I phone OCUK tomorrow where I got it?

At this rate I don't want a replacement as these issues are all over the web. I see some talking about two differing memory manufacturers used on the 290x cards. How do I find out what my card is using?

This has been one FRUSTRATING card. :(

I've just had a random black screen on my R9 290 - been gaming all day and this black screen when I right clicked on a hyperlink during idle...

I'm curious - will an RMA just replace the card or can you ask for a refund after the DSR period is over? Also I got a R9 290 with BF4 which I have sold therefore can I still RMA even though I've sold a part of the product?

Usually an RMA is just a card replacement - I'm not sure if you can get a refund, but it'd probably be best to check with the resellers by calling them.

Also, I can't imagine the BF4 thing would be a problem - that's just a promotion from AMD as far as I know and so it should be fine to just return the card. :)

I've always had problems with my AMD cards! I'll just keep RMA'ing until I get one that works I guess - I hope i'm not expected to pay for postage?

I've asked for a refund on my MSI R9 290X BF4 card from OCUK, I'm tired of this as I do this sort of stuff for a living.
I just want a working card, as much as I want to see how Mantle pans out I cant be sure that I wouldn't encounter this issue with another 290X.
Once I get my refund I'm most likely going to get a 780Ti. :(

They're still in stock @ ocuk and that's where I got my card from so I should be ok getting a replacement.
I've read people got issue for having sold/used the BF4 code, but that was only for trying to get a refund under DSR...

Replacement should be fine but you must make sure the card is faulty and make detailed records of the specific problems/faults so OcUK will be more likely to replicate the problem when they test the card, rather than turn round to you and say "no fault found" and return the card to you.

Mines still under DSR and I've only had the black screen once - which may seem extreme to RMA but knowing the issues people are having i'm not taking any risks. If they refuse to send a replacement as they cannot replicate the problem I will just ask for my money back and order another from another etailer their loss.

I have sent mine for RMA to OCuK and am awaiting a reply. As mine is over 28 days old, they can't refund or replace it with a different card.

Since the black screens happen at random on mine, I really hope they don't turn around and say it has no faults and ship it back to me. I have since re-installed my 670 and it works like a charm, no issues.

What really miffs me is that after all the stuff I did to try and get this working (Drivers and new OS install) it continued to blue screen/bar Windows 8 all day yesterday I had about 10 of these events and the drivers stop working and restore about 3-4 times.

Today so far its blue screened once!!!

So flipping random :(

I think you get are may be confused with the term DSR and rma :p

DSR is sending back and demanding for a refund, whereas rma is usually refer to sending back for replacement/repair/fixing under warranty :)

If you have used the BF4 code, then trying to get full refund under DSR would may be difficult, but replacement under rma should still be no problem, as that's covered under warranty, rather than DSR term.
