Why is it that I can guzzle down food almost all day and not get fat?

But with a diet like that you're clearly bulking and have somehow got lost on the way to the Sports forum :p
 
I can't remember the exact source, name Covert Bailey and a book called 'Fit or Fat,' sticks in my mind for some reason - but i could be wrong. Anyway, whoever it was put forward a theory that everybody had a genetically pre-determined level of fat, or set-point, which their body would try and maintain. Eat excessive calories and if your 'set-point' was low the extra calories would be burnt up. On the other hand he argued that if your natural set-point was high, then eat excessively and you'll store it as fat!

Sounds little like BS as it needs to be linked to age.
 
I'm similar. I do a fair bit of excercise (an hour of football today, a run on Saturday and Sunday and about 15 miles cycling once or twice during the week) and I don't put on weight. I put it down to having a high rate of metabolism (whatever metabolism is) and doing a decent amount of excercise. Here's today's food:

Breakfast: Big bowl of porridge, apple, walnuts, black coffee
10am: Blueberry muffin, fruit salad, black coffee
12:30: Cheese and Onion roll, sausage roll, ginger bun, 20p penny sweets, Cadbury's Bournville bar, apple
3:25: Ham and pickle sandwich, fruit salad, 4 or 5 cookies, Quaker breakfast bar
7pm: Chicken fajitas, large portion of rhubarb crumble, another 4 or 5 cookies
9pm: another 3 or 4 cookies, grapes

And that was a fairly light day. I sometimes get through 6 or 7 slices of bread as a light afternoon snack. Luckily I only grow upwards, never outwards!

Currently 13 stone @ 6'3
 
OP its your age, when i was 17, weighed 12 & 1/2 stone im 5'9 and it was pure muscle i could eat what i wanted


when i hit 23 ish my metabalism slowed down, i started getting a beer gut and by 25 i was 15 stone and looking porky :eek:

im 29 now and my weight goes up and down depending on how much i train (thai boxing) and drink

6 months ago i was 13 stone of pure muscle but now im 14 stone but pretty solid

so its your age probably unless your one of those lucky few that will always have a super fast metabolism

im a hard mofo though ;)
 
Breakfast: Bowl of cheerios + 4 egg scrambled on 2 pieces of toast
Morning snack = Snickers
Lunch = 2x cheddar + pickle sandwiches w/ pork pie
Afternoon snack = Big bag of McCoys steak flavour crisps
Dinner = 2x chicken breast in honey + mustard sauce with large pile of rice and random vegetables

I weight 12 stone and im 6'2 :(
 
Im exactly the same body type as my dad.

Eat loads, drink loads and no exercise = get big and fat fast
Eat loads, drink quite a bit and exercice quite a lot = stay the same
Eat normal, drink a bit and exercise = stay the same
Eat quite a lot drink a bit and exercise = loose weight slowly and get better body
Eat not that much, dont drink and exercise a lot = shed weight and body looks better within a couple of weeks

At the moment im going for the middle option but hammering the gym so loosing beer weight and bodys slowly getting better (until the weekend!)

Well I have finally finished clearing out my cereal cupboard of old cereal. (I am the only person who eats cereal in my house, and I had several boxes of cereal that was about six months old that I was reluctant to waste).

This is what I normally eat:

0600: 4 Weetabix Biscuits and Goats' Milk.
1530: Bread, and 3 Weetabix Biscuits with Goats' Milk (This changes a bit, but is usually the same).
1700: Meat (Lamb, Chicken), Potatoes (Boiled, Chipped), Green Vegetable (This all changes as I don't cook this meal [I can't cook at all {not even rice}]).
1900: 3 Weetabix Biscuits with Goats' Milk (Only if I didn't have any at 1530 hours).

That is it. It is a really bad diet really as I don't get enough protein. The problem for me is that I don't cook, and although I do have protein powder, I am reluctant to drink a protein shake all the time for protein as it makes me feel as if I am tied into eating purely because I have to, not because I want to.

I don't know any snacks that I could eat that would give me protein really. Also, I don't eat from 0600 hours to 1530 hours, which I am sure is quite bad. :p

(I am about 5'11" and 12.5-13 stone [I do weightlifting/bodybuilding {well when I don't have exams :p} so I hope some of that is muscle]).

Im exactly the same, 6'1 about 11 stone ish prob more aswell and eat healthy dinners, have a good breakfast but i binge during the day eat lots of crap at lunch and eat chocolate, play footie mabie once a week if that and i havent got any fatter in over 2 years lol 1 way its annoying as i want to put on some more weight in areas but good that i cant eat like i do and not get fat :p
 
We must be have been separated at birth. I am the same weight and height as the OP and I've been that way for about 8 years now.

I am coming on 24 and still no sign of any beer gut. :D
