Been in IT all my working life and I'd say the ratio of men to women in my actual team across all roles has probably been about 20:1. If we go wider, across entire IT departments, I'd say it would come up to 10:1.
My managers in my last two jobs were female, and they were great at their jobs. Even in management roles, they did their time in support, so still able to help out with difficult situations.
When I was at uni there were 100+ men and 4 women on my course. If women aren't as interested in getting the qualification as men then they aren't going to be getting the jobs that need the qualifications. Maybe this will improve in the future now they're teaching programming to kids. I'm told in other countries like Romania its more like a 50/50 split at school and beyond.
