Why you SHOULD be using Firefox

Apart from reading 17 pages of why Firebox is better than chrome. Anyone care to give me a couple of bullet points as a summary or something haha.

Aside from opensource/anti google that's the only ones I can think of so far.

* Fast and light with latest updates (new rendering engines etc)
* More advanced networking capabilities that Google locks down in Chrome(ium). For example uBlock Origin can block trackers by CNAME in Firefox, but that's not available/blocked in Chrome(ium)
* No Manifest v3 (which will basically kill off ad blocking in its current form once Google roll it out)
* Easy to make private, doesn't send your data and browsing history back to the mother ship (though that kind of ties in with your 'aside from...')

To be fair though, your 'aside from' qualifiers are two of the most important reasons to use Firefox. Being open source (Chromium is, but Chrome isn't) and not being Google are two of the biggest pros for Firefox and shouldn't be minimised. If Chrome(ium) continues to dominate the web and Firefox dies out or becomes obscure to the point of irrelevance, Google effectively drives the web standards whether de facto or real. Remember IE...

Mozilla gon' Mozilla. I always use compact mode, on all my devices. Call me a weirdo, but I want my browser to fill its space with webpages/content, not thicc toolbars. That's especially important on my old mid-2012 MacBook Pro (720p screen), and any other devices where screen estate is at a premium.

I'm certainly a fan of compact mode too, vertical screen space is paramount to me using an ultrawide. Had no idea the mode was being phased out, will keep a close eye on it.

Same, I just want the screen to show the website more than the toolbars etc....

Seriously it's like Mozilla are just doing the opposite of what everyone wants these days and/or assuming the web is browsed purely on things where people use their fingers (it's all going finger sized when you look at it).... might be time to look at palemoon, maybe even brave etc again because it's starting to feel like they're trying to just kill off firefox for their core users.

Crazy to think how so many companies these days thinks all size fits all. I also cannot stand thick toolbars.

I think the latest edge is better than Firefox. what are the thoughts guys?

For rendering/web stuff? Yeah, it's decent (as any Chromium based browser is). For privacy?... LOL. I actually would use it for some things, except the new tab page drives me insane. It gives the cookie notice every time I open a tab, or a browser window, and because of my extensions it never remembers my preferences. So I have to deal with it. Every. Single. Time. ARGH. Ungoogled Chromium and Vivaldi have all the same features underneath and don't drive me nuts.

The Proton redesign that's due out next month for release (already available on beta and nightly) isn't going down too well looking at the subreddit, so much wasted space and they look more like buttons than tabs now.

I'm warming to most of the design, it actually looks fine when set to compact mode. Only issues I have is the context menus where it looks like it has a little bit too much padding. Apparently the Mac version uses MacOS's native context menus and it seems Proton looks better overall for Mac users.

It still feels way too soon for the redesign to be released, it was only discovered a couple of months ago and was extremely hard for community feedback.

Just tried the Proton GUI on the latest Firefox nightly build and I have to say it looks gash and obnoxious. And that's being polite.

The current tab stands out too much. And why does the address bar always have an annoying blue box around it that distracts me from my content?

I get the feeling it's trying to attract Chrome users by looking a bit like it. But in actual fact the design is so garish, it will probably put those users off, as well as existing Firefox users. Are they deliberately trying to kill Firefox off? :(

Is anyone else finding Firefox crashing a lot at present? I keep getting tabs crashing when using YouTube.

I'll have to check my settings.
