Why you SHOULD be using Firefox

I get that with BBC iPlayer sometimes. Things improved when I changed the DNS over HTTP provider from NextDNS to Cloudfare.

It is definitely something related to HTTPS - it is happening now with Twitter and was able to do a bit of debugging and can see logged information of exceptions that for some reason the connection isn't secure - but instead of throwing up some kind of error it is just sitting there loading indefinitely.

Weirdly when I started prodding it with debugging tools, in the middle of writing out the post, it suddenly started working again - it doesn't normally until I restart the browser.

What's your HTTPS setting on?

Ever wondered what 200 open tabs is like on Firefox?

Actually no different in performance to just 4 tabs open lol. Other than the RAM usage but hey ho.

Version 108.0, first offered to Release channel users on December 13, 2022

New:

  • Import maps, which allow web pages to control the behavior of JavaScript imports, are now enabled by default.
  • Processes used for background tabs now use efficiency mode on Windows 11 to limit resource use.
  • The shift+esc keyboard shortcut now opens the Process Manager, offering a way to quickly identify processes that are using too many resources.
  • Improved frame scheduling when under load; this substantially improves Firefox’s MotionMark scores.
Fixed:

  • Firefox now supports properly color correcting images tagged with ICCv4 profiles.
  • Support for non-English characters when saving and printing PDF forms.
  • The bookmarks toolbar's default "Only show on New Tab" state works correctly for blank new tabs. As before, you can change the bookmark toolbar's behavior using the toolbar context menu.
  • Various security fixes.
Changed:

  • Firefox now supports the WebMIDI API and a new experimental mechanism for controlling access to dangerous capabilities.

Undo what change? Still looks/feels the same as always ahving updated to the new update... Unless you were on an ancient version and only just updated.

No other browser offers the same wealth of features and customisation.

The new power state feature under Win11 for background tabs is working well it seems:

It's garbage. I am always on the latest version but this one is just terrible. Instead of opening new tabs it opens a new site on the same tab and the back button doesn't work. This is a nightmare when doing a search as everytime I look at a result I have to redo the search as there is no way to open a new tab for each result I click on. Yes, open links in a new tab is ticked, it just doesn't work.

That has everything to do with your settings rather than anything Mozilla have changed. Mouse back button navigation is dictated by whatever mouse software you use. never seen it mentioned anywhere else or seen it directly these problems you face, so if it is a settings issue then please state the steps to replicate so others can verify too, otherwise it's an issue with your specific setup/hardware that needs checking up on.

I am talking about the back button in Firefox although I would normally use the one on the mouse. It won't open new tabs either. Everything was fine until the new update was installed. I have now switched to the ESR version of Firfox and surprise surprise everything is working again.

Have you tried safe mode or even a clean profile just in case? Haven't noticed any issues you mentioned on my end.

Absolutely no problems here either.

@pastymuncher
I'm wondering if your profile is perhaps corrupt. Easiest way to find out is rename the Mozilla folder in %localappdata% (to keep a backup of your current Firefox settings, bookmarks, cookies, history, etc) and try a fresh profile.

Of course, setting everything up the way you like it is going to be a pain in the rear end. But isn't setting up a new browser going to be just as bad and that's without getting used to the different way it works, etc.

Thanks for the replies but I have switched to the ESR version of Firefox and have no issues with it at all so I am sticking with that. Firefox was fine until todays update and all of a sudden nothing worked so whatever happened the update broke it.

Anyone noticed a delay in closing some tabs with 108?

E.g on Microsoft's site...

Normally i click and the tab closes instantly but now there's a 1sec delay.
