Wii Fit - Who`s Ordered?

The Girlfriend wanted this so I've got it on pre order. Convinced her to trade in her Wii copies of Sims castaway and my sims as part of the deal. All in all will end up costing £35 after the trade ins so thats not so bad.

Not sure I will give this a go myself, 6'4 and 17 stone ... probably not a good idea for something that was (more than likely) originally designed for tiny asian bodies of the kind I certainly dont posses :D

I think its an interesting idea as far as gaming goes, especially considering the current rise in obesity in children. If it encourages youngsters to get off thier sofa's and engage in (albeit a small amount) of physical activity without realising then I think its a superb idea.

Kamakazie How you can back this up and then state I won't be buying it is completely beyond me.

I haven't stated any opinion about the game so i don't need to have played it/buy it.

I get tired of people posting opinions on games they know nothing about/haven't played.
Next time you join a game thread to post an opinion on the game, make sure you have played the thing first. Even if you actually knew how the game worked it would have been an improvement.

yeah I suppose it's not like I've played anything in recent years that have kept me glued to my console..

You did kind of come in here and just slate it with no idea about it at all. Not the best approach really is it?

You're of course allowed your opinion but it would be better respected if you based it on something.

I wouldn't worry. The balance board has been redesigned for use by the larger people in the US/EU market and it's max weight capacity has been greatly increased. I think it is now 165kg (as also stated earlier) which gives you plenty of room for manoeuvre.

Not going to order... It's bad enough wanting to pre-order Guitar Hero for the DS when I could just go and play one of my real guitars, without buying this in lieu of actually getting some real exercise.

Ohhh, I'm actually suprised that someone actually thought about this in advance. Would have thought the hardware would have been uniform across the board due to manufacturing costs of 2 seperate boards.

Makes a nice change :)

My wife was lucky enough to get a go on this at her job (one of the partners there got it on import and because she can translate Japanese he took it in to let her try it).

My wife is a keep-fit nut (runs 4 miles every morning, goes to the gym during the afternoon etc.) and she reckons that for a low impact workout it is great but it will not really raise the heart rate that much but that is probably a good thing given the sterotypical videogamer.

I was going to get her one from work but she has decided against it for the time being as she feels it would not benefit her but she has recommended it too a few of the larger ladies at work as a great way to do low impact excercise

so in other words you just came in hear to rip into me cause I said that this is a stupid game and I don't understand why anyone would want to own it.. I wonder how many threads you go into and rip those who don't agree with the way that a manufacture is going with there product.

And as about looking in to how the product works and everything I don't really need to press ups and pressure senstive pads?? I can count you know.

Ordered it, looking forward to it, as an addition to the exercise program it seems like a pretty good idea.

I must admit, the fitness side may well be a shortlived fad, but anything that keeps me active in some way has to be a good thing. :)

I really am hoping for decent game support in the future though. I think ultimately, this will determine the boards success. I am sure it will sell by the bucketload, and that may be good enough for Nintendo, but its longevity will be down to the creativity and imagination of the software developers.

Wii fit is another great ninetendo idea to get non gamers interested in the Wii, nothing wrong with it at all. Listening to EGM this week they had a chat about it, to me it seems a bit like wii sports but using the balance board in stead of the wiimote for the mini games (not saying you just use the board). The exercise part is not going to get you fit as such or lose much weight, but it may lead people in to a healthy life style if they start seeing a few pounds go every now and then, and is a good way to monitor your BMI, weight etc kinda like a personal trainer as such, which is a good thing. The thing that I want to see is third party devs using it for Tony hawks, skate, ssx etc, some have said they will which is far more interesting to me.

I've ordered it, not totally convinced by it though from the things I've read and the videos I've seen. I thought it might be something fun to do on the days when I'm not at the gym and have time.

Will see next week I imagine.

edit: Kinetic was fun for a while.

From a purely business perspective, the Wii Fit is a genius idea.

All over the world there are people feeling guilty about their weight, going to the gym for a month and dieting for a few weeks, but not being arsed to comit themselves.

Wii Fit will offer these people a low impact, gentle way of excercise that makes them feel good about themselves.

It won't actually change anything for them, however. They'll drop the Wii Fit after a month or so, just like they dropped that diet or stopped going to the gym when the free trial ran out. But will will make Nintendo money, and that's the point.

Sorry if that comes across as negative. I give kudos to Nintendo for offering something truley different and innovative, beyond the endless stream of shooters and racers which seems to be the norm for other platforms. But the Wii Fit will not revolutionise the way people play games or exercise, despite what some believe.

You didn't say that you can't understand why anyone would want it. Your first comment was "stupid game, 2 month life span at best!". How can you claim a game to be stupid and have a 2 month life span if you don't even know what the game involves? You are basing your opinion on next to no information.
I didn't rip in to you, i just pulled you up for being misinformed/ignorant of the facts.

I always pull people up for talking rubbish about something they know little about. Maybe next time you want to comment on a game that you have an unjustified disliking for, you will actually educate yourself on the product so you can make an informed decision. Then i'll listen to your opinion because it is valid.

So anyway, now you actually know a bit more about what the game involves, why exactly is it "stupid" and why will it only have a "2 month life span"?
Also, what is your problem if people want the game? Are you scared that casual gamers will take over "your hobby". It it certainly the mentality of some seasoned gamers.

To those that are buying the game, are you buying it for the fitness aspect, the mini-games (skiing looks like fun) or so you can have the board for future games?

EDIT: You think the pressure sensitive pad is mainly for press ups? It is not. It is used extensively to make sure you are doing the Yoga exercises correctly and is also used for the mini-games. Skiing, marble mania type thing and hula-hoops thing among others. You really need to go find out more about the game.

I think it will change things for a significant proportion of users though. Even if you did 30mins twice a week on the thing then it will improve health. It's not gonna lose you weight, but even if it gets these people moving it will be a significant improvement. I think some people are forgetting that there are a lot of people out there that do absolutely no exercise. The longest walk a lot of these people do is from the front door to their car.
The fact that it makes doing the low impact stuff more fun and less repetitive is another huge bonus of this over using a normal stepper or something like that.
The yoga is just another advantage.

EDIT: I agree it is great from a business perspective. Cheap to develop and has already sold over 1.8m in Japan alone.

" Oi Porky, how about getting a Wii Fit to lose some pounds in a low impact way? "

Hope she does it without patronizing them too much! ;) :p

I haven't ordered one but will be getting one once the market has matured and there is a few more games that use it.
