WII out performs PS3 in US

but surely by time ps3 come out developers will be pushing 360 a lot further and getting more out than the ps3 as powerful as it is. it'll still take developers time to get their heads around it and by the time you do see ps3 at its best m$ will be leakin confidental news of there bran spankin new console which is more powerful than 2-3 ps3. they've put them selves behind ps have and m$ will exploit this. if they dont win this console battle i'd garuntee next battle they will.

Ok 2 points:

1.) technically whichever way you look Sony has already lost the 'war' compared to previous generation as they had something silly like 70% of the market, this time round believe it's going to be fairly even for a while at least, which will be a 'lost' for sony.

2.) keep mentioning kids getting PS3's, what about adults who are also getting it b/c of the blu-ray drive ???

that would be badly invested money concidering no one knows what format will come out on top and sony formats never become dominant i can see hddvd coming out on top because it'll be cheaper and play your old dvds .

blu ray can play your old dvd's too and the discs are the same price, just the hd-dvd hardware is cheaper.

More movie studios have signed-up to blu-ray as far as I know. There is little benefit from the hardware being cheaper if you can't get the movies you want to get.

yeah part opinion mate i personally think hddvd will come out ontop since this of topic no point going into it but it cost less to make hddvd discs which is fact, hddvd players are cheaper and they can play your old dvds also fact.

all i was saying is that it wouldnt been clever idea to buy ps3 just for the bluray player alone not until we know where we stand with hd formats .

Can't say I've read the whole thread as it rambles off into various fanboy/own opinion areas (not such a bad thing as that is what I am writing) but as an owner of a psp, a ds, an xbox, etc etc (upto 35 machines lol) I wouldn't go to hasty on any of the machines.

I have yet to order a X360 based on the price, the same will probably go for the PS3 yet I have a Wii waiting for me at launch. I don't believe the name is what killed the PSP it is the lack of functionality. Lets face it, PSP is short for Playstation Portable so it is in the name same as the DS is called the NDS by a lot of people.

I don't believe I am alone in believing the PSP is not portable, it has good potential and features but damages easily, is heavy and has a poor battery life, it is unsuitable for an MP3 player for these reasons alone (easily beaten by the likes of an I-Pod video). So what else does it offer? A web browser that is built in to my mobile phone, excellent game graphics that have along loading time and short battery life. it sounds like I hate the machine, I don't but I will list its shortfalls. it is literally a PS2 in a small form so is handy if you wan't to play at home while the wife watches coronation street but I would not take it out the house.

The DS however can take a beating thanks to the clamshell, has over 10hrs battery life even on standby I've found. Quick loading times and although graphics are sub-par there is a great deal of effort made to ensure that the games have good playability. There is a lack of "mature" titles due to Nintendo having a family image, you don't get the blood and gore you do by Microsoft or Sony but is that really the selling point? My 11yr old nephew wants the new 50 Cent game for his PSP, why is that?? Gameplay?

A little less reliance on Movie and sports licences to sell the machine would be a great idea, I own 3 games for PS2 - Buzz, Guitar Hero 1 &2, unique and innovative sells it for me and I believe this is where the wii is heading. Maybe when I am tired of the motion controllers I will use a standard one and play some of the classics like Pikmin and Paper Mario that keep me going back to the Gamecube.

How many people here are guilty of playing more classics from X360 Live than they are of GOW?? I bet you all have Streetfighter and other "retro" titles that do not need the sheer power or pricetag of a X360 (apart from the forced purchase of a HDD).

Give them all a chance, break the mold and approach them with a liberal attitude. It is the software that makes the machine not the other way around, more power does not = more fun, this is not joyriding :p

Long speech over, apologies to anyone who read it I just have the day off and am terribly bored already :o

Chrisss, while I apologise for last night's snarky comment, I wish you'd actually post something with some subtance once in a while. You post here enough, and yet you never actually provide any reasoning for any of your points, and the whole one line post thing gets very tedious to read when you know it's not going anywhere.

That's the most annoying thing though. Despite the fact that we don't actually need top-notch graphics in every game we play to make it good, people still demand them from every "proper" next-gen game. If Geometry Wars, or SF2 had been a full-blown, boxed, off-the-shelf, £20 game, people would have been up in arms about how it wasn't good enough looking, despite both games having gameplay in spades, because "OMG IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE GOW ". It's a sad state of affairs when retro gaming is the only way people will accept a game that doesn't look "next-gen".

Meanwhile, developers are blowing millions on a (so far) fairly average game like Killzone, because they know that they'll sell a ton of units based purely on how amazing it looks. And console makers know that they can continue to play the "Hey, look how much better everything looks on our new console compared to the old one, quick, upgrade now please!". But every time the generation changes, and games get bigger and harder to program, to be accepted by the masses, the more money developers have to spend, and the less risks they're willing to take with what they make. And the more expensive the consoles become, because they have to look oh-so-amazing to get our cash.
