Will the horns ruin the World Cup?

How many people do you reckon are watching the World Cup around the world and you reckon the majority of them are buying vuvuzelas? People all went out and bought that stupid crazy frog ringtone, it's a fad mainly targeted at kids, doesn't mean it doesn't annoy the majority.

They're selling well.

Amazon have something like a 1000% increase in sales according to the Guardian. They're popular. The majority are buying them.

The minority are complaining.

Is it not possible to simply run the ambient stadium noise through one channel, filter the frequencies required, then run the commentary through a second channel, with no filter, the re-combine before broadcast?

Ambient >----> Filter >------>
=======================>--------->Output to TV
Commentary >--------------->

A 1000% increase might sound highly impressive but if up to this point they sold 1 a year then while it's still an impressive increase it's not a large number overall. The actual figures I don't know and you may not either but just to point out that statistics can be presented in a better light than they perhaps merit.

However I'm beginning to think that I'm either watching different games to most or I'm almost completely insensitive to the noise as they really don't bother me. The commentators on the other hand are almost invariably irritating to a degree.

They don't bother me at all, just concentrate on the game.

Sainsburys sold something like 22'000 < which is quite impressive.

We had them at Hillsborough last season for a few games! :)

My main problem is for the boring games I usually leave them in the background and when I hear the crowd get excited I turn to watch.. since I can't hear the crowd I miss the rare good parts :P
