Just phoned up O2 Bluewater and he told me not to bother turning up as people will be queuing from 6am. Any truth in this or are they trying to put people off so it's not too busy.

I really don't see the need for people to bother queueing up especially when you can order from CPW online and have it at your door on release. That's why I've done anyway and it saves me the hassle. They took the money for the phone two days ago, only 4 days to go!

I ain't getting one.
I'll be in an even worse position next year when the V4 if I bought one at the end of my current contract and I'll cost me a fortune and still not qualify for one next year if I buy out now. There's no reasonable solution for current 3G users.

Yeah there is.. stop signing up to 18 month contracts if you don't want to see them through. You're not a premiership football player, you're someone who likes apple phones.

Sorry? If you mean iPhone contracts at 18m for "as long as I care to remember" then you mean for the 2 generations of iPhone? If you mean for All phones then you have a VERY short memory!
My N95 8GB was on a 18 month contract and I bought that back in 2007? What's your point?

They are terrific looking gadgets.

But just too damn expensive.

The contracts on top of the cost of the phone makes this a ludicrously expensive phone.

ASDA mobile costs 8p a minute :-)

Is it looking likely that this 'Special Contract' arrangement with O2 will ever end? And this will be easily available (ie without phaffing about, jail breaking etc)?

If I could simply buy the phone for £300, and have it on ASDA as pay as you go, then that would be a much more tempting proposition.

That is a long winded way of saying 'No'. Not unless I start making some serious lolly.

Fair enough.

Shows how desperate I have been to get my hands on one :-)

I like the idea. But it seems extremely expensive.

What is the cheapest unlocked deal anyone has seen? (My asda sim is waiting...)

Just checking out some news about this here:

http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_12546869

the Cupertino company will begin selling two new models — 16 and 32 gigabytes — for $199 and $299, respectively, for new and eligible current customers with a contract from its U.S. carrier partner, AT&T.

At the same time, Apple cut the price of the older 8GB model, which will sell for $99.

If I could pick up an unlocked 8gb for £65 (ie $99) I would probably do it.

But Apple thinks of a number and triples it when it comes to the UK, so there doesn't seem to be much chance of that.

its just too much. the older 8Gb i could just about stretch to tho. could afford one the last time my contract was up and i live to regret that with the Samsung F700. question is will i do the same thing again?!

2 whole years ago? :D
I did say "for as long as I care to remember" as opposed to "as long as I can remember" :D Either way 2+ years > 18 months so you've got no excuse for not knowing what you were getting into (clue: an 18 month contract) when you bought an iPhone 3G. On contract. For 18 months.

Not 100% certain yet. I'm 12 months into an 18 months contract, but my wife wants an iphone 3G, so probably take out a new contract for her, get a 3GS with it, and swap the Sim cards over.

Depends on the camera quality though, as thats the only reason I want to upgrade - has anyone seen any test photos on the net yet?

Thinking that I may take the plunge and get the iPhone 3GS. Does anyone know if you signup through Carphone Warehouse if the contract/billing is handled by them or direct with O2? Much prefer to be direct with O2, but being able to get some cash back through Carphone Warehouse is very tempting :)

You'll be billed by o2. I bought my 3g from Carephone Warehouse.

Thinking the same thing to save hassles on Friday - can you choose colour online?

Will have a think about this tomorrow at work :p

ps3ud0

The way I see it (as a 2G owner) is to either go with:

Option 1
Buy on PAYGO - £440
Simplicity @ £20/mo for 18 mo - £360
Total = £800

Option 2
Buy on £45/mo contract for 18 mo - £810
Pay for phone - £90
Total = £900

You do have the option of dropping down the contact on the £45/mo contract after a certain amount of time.
