Yes but only because my current 18 month contract ended last month and if I'd known what a let down this 3GS is I still would have upgraded last month.

Anyone who actually pays off their existing contract for the sake of being the first one to own one of these quite frankly needs to get a life.

Alright chaps,

Any idea when the Apple website will have this up for sale?

Would like to be able to order this for a 19th/20th delivery on pay as you go.

I'm still not convinced on the volume of the ringer and ability to just set an MP3 as a tone though - my original was damn quiet

I may be able to shed some light, I've owned about 30 iPhones since they were introduced :o

iPhone V1 8GB quietest
iPhone V1.5 16GB louder, but still pathetic
iPhone 3G 16GB louder than previous, bordering acceptable dependant on content

Now it depends on what tune you use as I said above, or if you use sound effects. For example, a generic song just set as a ringtone will always seem quiet because of the poor dynamic range of the mono speaker, however, you could normalise the hell out of a song to boost the volume but to be honest you'd be left with a distorted mess. Jump by Van Halen is particularly bad when the drums kick in..

I personally use the original Mario Bros music, ripped from the NES and I find the volume plenty loud enough, even with a case or in my jeans.

To get any song as a ringtone you can use iToner or even just trim a 40 second clip and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r in iTunes.

If you don't have a Mac and you don't mind a bit of faffing, Audacity will do the job too.

Nope as much as id like to get one, im not ready for O2 to shaft me up my backside with their stupid pricing on the handsets.

Plus i have the HTC Magic which i find is just as good if not better than the iphone...if any phone out there at the moment is an iphone killer it would be the Magic.

So am pretty happy to sit back and let people get ripped off by O2 and apple for a phone that doesnt really bring anything new to the table ie video recording and MMS should have been on the iphone from the word go:p

I may get one in september when I am able to upgrade luckily for me it will only mean the cost of a new hand set £75 for 16GB version or £154 for the 32GB version oh and another 24 month contract which I am happy to go on as I have only ever been with O2.

If you're on a 24m contract that would be Sept 08 you signed up.. I doubt they'll allow you an upgrade in Sept 09, when those who bought on release (3G) in July 08 on 18m contracts are being offered November for upgrade. Are you sure you're upgrade date isnt Sept 2010??? :D

Upgrading to the new iPhone 3G S

Existing Pay Monthly customers have the following options for upgrading
to iPhone 3G S:

Option 1 - wait until eligible for an upgrade.
All O2 Pay Monthly customers are part of O2 Priority List and those paying £35 or more a month, have the opportunity to upgrade early. Customers won't have to see out the full term of their existing contract before being eligible for an upgrade.

* All customers continually spending over a minimum of £80.00 a month, receive a 6 month early upgrade
* All customers continually spending over a minimum of £50.00 a month, receive a 3 month early upgrade
* All customers continually spending a minimum of £35.00 a month, receive a 1 month early upgrade

Terms apply. For more information on O2 Priority List click here.

Existing iPhone customers will, however, enjoy iPhone OS 3.0 software which will be free to download to all iPhone customers from 17 June offering over 100 new features.

For iPhone 3G customers this includes the much anticipated MMS (from 19 June) and also internet tethering (using your iPhone as a modem - also available from 19 June). Find out more.

Option 2 - purchase the iPhone 3G S on Pay & Go from 19 June. You can give your existing iPhone 3G to someone you know.

Pay Monthly customers can place their existing iPhone 3G sim card into the iPhone 3G S and receive all the latest functionality. Customers must continue to pay for their existing Pay Monthly tariff.

Option 3 - pay the remainder of their monthly line rental in one payment and sign a new Pay Monthly contract.

i pay minimum £35 so gona get one month early upgrade..WOOHOO!! :)

Try and save up and go for the 18 month contract you'll save yourself a fair bit in the long run. Can't be bothered to do the math but basically the extra cost of the handset on an 18 month contract is no where near the cost that an extra 6 months of line rental entails.

Well am on a business contract so have the option to upgrade my phone after 12 months. I am tied into a 24 month contract but that doesn't bother me as I have always been with O2.

Way to much to go up from a 3g for hardly any gain. Ill be buying tom tom though if its priced alright. I noticed they neglected to say at WWDC so im expecting its expensive.

Got mine ordered, will be my first iphone and I've been out of contract with Vodafone for 2 months, so I'm looking forward to getting it. Went for the £35 24 month contract, I don't upgrade my phone every year and unless next years model is a lot better I will be sticking with this until I'm due an upgrade.

Did you use CFwarehouse too?

Definately!
Had my original N95 for far too long now.
16Gb version for me and since I also get a 25-30% O2 contract discount through work, should be good value... pity I cant get 3G where I live though :(

out of interest do iphones generally drop in price at all ? Having a look around and they seem to stick at RRP for the entire gneration of its release :(

Apple products in general tend not to lose much of their original value. The iPhone isn't really any different.

thanks, thinking of 'investing' in the 16gb 3gs and then just selling it on next year and hopefully not loosing too much and also won't be tied down when just buying the handset and going payg.
