You want the thread to just be full of happy clappy monarchists? This is our country too and this is the perfect thread for discussing the future of this country when it comes to the royals.

Personally I'm very positive about lots of things, I'm a half glass full kind of guy. That doesn't stretch to the direction of this country over the last few years and GD/SC on the forum are for discussing such things are they not?

If I had such strong anti monarchy views, which seem prevalent especially amongst the younger voters, what I would do is vote for the party who has clearly laid out an anti monarchy manifesto. Given the alleged popularity of this hatred for our Royals finding such a party won't be hard, will it? How about listing those parties here for the ease of those perhaps wanting to support their manifesto...? ;)

You realise such a change takes decades to happen right? Well unless we are doing it like the French, which I don't think anyone is suggesting. So lets see where this discussion is in 20 years, the Queen only died last year. Who knows maybe one of the parties will be talking about it then.

If it wasn’t clear, I’m not just talking about this thread, it’s all their posts over the whole forum.

I don't know about the people on this forum, but most of the IT people I've dealt with are like this, abject misery about everything. It's not too much of a stretch to think that a lot of the members on here are IT people given the nature of the site.

But it's so popular, got to be a vote winner, surely? Just look at the vitriol for them on here and other internet forums. There must be at least ONE party who hasn't missed this golden opportunity to sweep all before them with such a manifesto, surely? Gotta start somewhere, given the applause for the death of our Queen, it can't be something that needs decades to suggest simply due to good taste and manners?

Could it, just maybe, be due to the fear of the quiet majority.... ? ;)

It's easier to put something down than to support something it seems. I think the isolation from people has really amplified that. I remember when people used to post a lot of encouragement and support about anything. Sure, you'd still get your grumpy ******** but on the whole there was more positivity.

However one thing I can't agree about being positive about is the monarchy! :D that said I don't mind people enjoying it or having fun, just don't expect me to understand why!

Since the majority of people in my professional and social circle are spending 75% of their week in the office socialising it's definitely had a positive impact on interactions between people. I'm convinced isolation from social situations is what drives negativity from people .

People should be more humble and admit when they are wrong/made a mistake instead of trying to win on the internet.

Agreed... I'll add that people should understand that a mistake/change of opinion by others has been genuine and accept/recognise it with humility rather than going back on the attack like some rabid dog just for e-peen points.

If both these things happened, discussions would be far more open and productive.

Then again, when our leaders can't manage it (of all political colours), why are we surprised that the masses follow their lead....

The MET need broken up, it's just inherently broken at this point.
Yep ‘defund the police’, worked well in America.. oh wait lol…

End of the day no one managed to disrupt the coronation so will be seen as a result in the MET whilst delivering a few ‘apologies’ through gritted teeth. :D

That's certainly a way to spin it, but no I did not say to get rid of the police.

Whatever sectors the MET operate in London should become their own constabularies and the MET relegated to history before it becomes solely a politicised force.

A kind of brexit for the police? Nice, not better together lol..

Met admit they ****** up.

They did not make a mistake. They knew exactly what they were doing. They cynically used a new law (passed only 3 days previously) and the presence of some fabric/leather luggage straps in the van to confiscate thousands of placards which were being taken to a rendezvous for a large approved peaceful protest.

Obviously, those luggage straps (used to hold bagged up placards in place in the van during transportation) could not be used to 'lock on' people to disrupt the Royal procession. They could be cut with a pair of scissors or just unbuckled in a second! It's a clear case of abuse of the new legislation in order to manufacture a pretext to disrupt a large protest which would be embarrassing to the establishment.

Anyone (like myself) who has attended a peaceful but controversial political protest in this country knows the Police leadership talk out of both sides of their mouth. They say different things to different groups of people about the same issues and use all sorts of unethical manipulation (like broken promises after full cooperation) to get their way and stifle free speech.

100% this. No way Met were going to risk protesters messing this up and news dominating with articles on how they let it be ruined for Joe Public. I thought it was clear from the law passed and what must have been a huge unofficial tap on the shoulder (from royal aids, Gov) that under no circumstances were protesters to ruin this.

Looks like it paid off judging from one article in the news about arrests, and later the 'regret'.

Basically, that day any organised protesters within ear shot of the coronation, beit peaceful or otherwise was banned. Do I like? Absolutely not. Will anything be done about it? Literally doesn't matter to the power brokers that allowed in the first in the first place and I expect in decades to come we'll see the some declassified communications between Royal aids, Met & Gov giving the green light for arrests.

Errr there were yellow protestors all over the place.

They yoinked a couple of dozen out of a few thousand(?).

The Met make a sound proactive move to avoid probably serious confrontation and disturbance and then immediately start apologising for their actions in the media.

Unbelievable, what a shower of dysfunctional wets must be leading them. Can they not just get on with policing the metropolis without turning every situation into a PR event of usually disastrous effect? There's no need for everyone to bloody well like them.

All we need now is Rowley down one knee.
