Couple of genuine questions :
Why do we have a coronation when there's no requirement for one?
Why is the taxpayer paying for it rather than the King?

1. Distraction, people using food banks or not able to pay their mortgage can wave their little union jack flags around and pretend everythings great for an hour or two.
2. Because that's how things work, taxpayer is on the hook for everything whilst the country crumbles.

(My brothers actually got a golden ticket to attend the coronation, one of 2000 apparently)

The genuine truth is that it's because the monarchy is above our democracy and the press will convince us that it's normal.

It's no more normal than what goes on in North Korea - the British public cried on demand when the Queen died and they will cheer on demand when this event takes place.

Jesus wept, talk about utter cringe.

Scottish Secretary Alister Jack is “standing guard” over the Stone of Destiny in London to make sure “nationalists don’t steal it again”, Tories have been told

Given the alleged financial irregularities and seemingly hidden vehicular assets the SNP are under police investigation for, one can't be too careful <LOL>

Yes.. er.. LOL.

The coronation being used as yet another vehicle for anti Scottish hatred isn't surprising - they need to keep up those culture wars; it's all they've got left in the tank.

Absolutely not, don't think monarchy should exist. I thought Queen was alright though turns out she had a lot of stuff she was doing that the public should have been informed of but never were.

However I will endeavour not begrudging anyone else their celebration and will enjoy having the day off. Perhaps some Crusader Kings would be an apt way to spend the day.

Charles I think is a bit bonkers, and may interfere more than the Queen did. The only good thing is he seems to hate his brother which means no more bailing out Prince Andrew. I do like his pushing for green initiatives.

It's exactly why I won't be going to the street party on the Monday.

Apart from it being hypocritical if I went, I wouldn't be able to lie to people's faces and pretend plus I wouldn't be able to not have a food fight with our awful next door neighbours.

Everybody all round can have a better day :D

The King will say the words: “In His name and after His example, I come not to be served but to serve.

they got that wrong V

I have served and will be of service

maybe an act of fealty too, and we should expect some kind of military and hand to hand combat skills, as of old.

e: older neighbours opposite now have bunting , and will be shaming myself and two neighbours who never show xmas/royal-occasion decorations/flags - were there flags during Falklands
