I didnt bother waiting for an icon. I just did all updates available on Win7, then used the direct link to the MS win10 download webpage that someone linked to a few pages back. Soon sorted it and I was up and running Win10 in about 35mins

Don't you need a certain amount of free space on your Windows drive for the icon to show up? Had a guy at work that had less than 20 GB free and as soon as here freed up some space the icon appeared.

No issues on that score - my drives had a damn good clear-out a few weeks back and have never been emptier. I inadvertantly found out the cause last night - given that the patch the Compatibility Checker had told me needed installing the previous night was one of 20-odd classed by Windows Update as 'Optional', I installed all those other 'Optional' patches as well.

Rebooted and BOOM, there's your Windows 10 icon on the taskbar ...

Will do the upgrade next week, when I've actually got time to deal with any issues that crop up with drivers etc.
