Windows 10 Full Creator Update - Huge Gain

Hmm, think I've found the problem. Every time I turn that top option on and then leave the settings page, it automatically turns back off again.

I can't get the Game bar up as well. I also now can't get over 30 fps in CS:GO lol... I don't have a clue what's going on.

Edit: make that all my games...

I had an issue with this and it was only solved with new windows. It came down to me having removed certain windows features that were stealing space/cpu in the background. Basically purging the bloatware.

My video showing it here along with all the possible fixes that don't work.

It really is a new windows jobbie I'm afraid.

I actually managed to fix it by creating a registry key that enabled it. However, I'm still stuck with the problem that all of my games are now hovering around 30fps and the mouse has a severe case of input lag. I've turned Game DVR off, turned Game Mode off and on, even disabled the entire lot. Nothing works. I've now reverted back to my previous Windows installation and everything's fine again.

This is the second time I've tried the Creators Update. Once a few months back with the older version and now with this new Fall version and both made my games unplayable for completely unknown reasons. I've disabled Windows Updates now and I'll just remain on version 1607 forever I guess. :(

I've still got the game bar disabled with the new update (thus game mode disabled). Played several games, no issues so far, but certainly smoother. Actually noticed an improvement with BF1, which surprised me.

Only problem (expected) was that I had to re-install afterburner as rivatuner got screwed.

Just installed the update.
Questions for you chaps:
- Does game mode remember what games you'd like to have it applied for? If so, is this a list that can be reviewed and edited, a bit like the startup listings in windows taskbar?
- When I run DCS, I'll normally run a bunch of sideline applications to assist, i.e. voiceattack, MSI Afterburner, tacview, voicemeeter and simshaker.
How does windows know to prioritise DCS over the sideline applications and also window's background stuff?
Is it as simple as you applying it whilst DCS is the app that you were last directly accessing, prior to opening game mode, or is it smart enough to know that you wish DCS prioritising over the other bunch of stuff?

Just tested with DCS. Wasn't sure if it improved things or not. There's no inbuilt demo. What I did find is that some of my USB controllers didn't seem to want to talk to the game part way through. That's something of an issue. To be investigated more me thinks.

Just installed the Fall Creators update and no issues so far. Seems to run well and haven't found any annoying problems yet.

Will try some gaming later on this afternoon to test.

Welp, I've had to go rollback to previous :( something messed up my mouse but only in certain games, like FPS when I move the mouse was sketchy and not smooth and would jump around :(

Gutted.

I had something similar but it went away after toggling mouse settings a few times - haven't tried extensively gaming as the only systems I've Windows 10 on are tablets so might still be present in some stuff - I think they've messed something up somewhere in relation to the mouse.

Whatever has input focus (keyboard and mouse) should have priority.

Full screen by any chance? Noticed I couldn't get gamebar open in full screen only borderless.
Yeah it was fullscreen lol, what's with that? Most games don't support borderless and windowed isn't playable on anything but the more casual genres.

Though I will admit, the FPS in Fallout 4 seems about the same but the game feels a lot less clunky when it drops to it's 30s in the settlements and city areas, could that be game mode?

"Microsoft".

It's annoying. It clearly detects the hotkey press but the drawing of the overlay seems to crash(can see it in event viewer). Considering they wrote directX you would have thought they'd be able to write their injection correctly to support fullscreen.

I used to have a similar issue with AMD relive.

I would still suggest leaving game mode off it seems to do more harm than good. From reading around it appears to emulate fullscreen from a borderless window. So you may get higher fps but you will get an increase in Input lag.

I have always used Fullscreen for all gaming, never seen the point in using windowed/borderless, any benifit ?

Ah i see, always wondered why it takes a while to go to desktop when i alt tab in full screen mode, might try it.

Its a trade off - though less so often these days - windowed/borderless fullscreen can perform slower and be more susceptible to interruption from other processes (though usually rare unless you've got a lot of stuff running that do notifications, etc.) but a lot quicker to tab out to desktop and sometimes works better if you are using companion programs.

Thx for explanation.

Still had an issues with my USB kit (full HOTAS, CV1 etc).
The good news is that disabling the Gamebar seems to have resolved it. So at least there was no requirement to conduct an update rollback. Clearly is does mean that it's not operational though.
