Windows 10 is it the worst ever version ?

at the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist...

what about all the built in spyware?

//i await the usual if u have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear etc etc

I find it amusing when you get a group of drama queens who state that "this is the worst version ever released!" or "so buggy it's unusable!". In the grand scheme of things, it's a nice incremental upgrade but that's about it.

A repeat of two years ago. If we got this in 1999 it would have been heaven.

Then you disable it?

You mean the stuff that isn't spyware in the slightest.

Cortana needs to read your emails and colanders to work. Don't like it disable it.

Outlook needs to copy your files to work.

Ms logs miss spelt words and voice commands to improve services.

Etc etc etc. Most of this is easily switched off if you're that way inclined.

They like google, facebook and pretty much everyone else reserve certain rights.

It really is a complete non issue.

and you dont find this in the least bit disconcerting that your info is harvested (and i am not even considering nsa applications here), processed and used to turn the end user - you - into "the product", not windows 10

the book 1984 was meant to serve as a warning, not a training manual

Why would you think that, its called windows 10 mobile and will be used on phones and tablets upto 8"

So what about the Surface?

That screens hot specifically calls it RT, yet all the stuff about Mobile calls it Windows 10 Mobile, which makes me think it's a different thing?

You'd be surprised at the information thats been gathered about you for decades from supermarkets.

Not really, no. At the end of the day the device is working for me, so if it knows me then it will be better.

No. Its not used to turn you into a product at all.
Its primarily used to a) offer a decent service. Some off the best features wouldn't work. Cortana, outlook, msa account & settings syncing.
B) used to improve service so voice recognition and spelling.
C) a random ID for targetted advertising. Something that is needed in this day and age and again no different to what google and many others have been doing for years. And unlike what some sites have said the marketing aspect have no idea who you are. Just your ID number.

So no its nothing like 1984.

yea of course - loyalty cards are the forefront of huge data mining operations for the likes of tesco, asda et all

using facts such as people generally shop at the same time (be that weekly, monthly, etc) and generally purchase the same items (outside of promotions) these companies can pre-order stock based on these trends and use targeted promotions to drive trade.

but i think that is outside the scope of this thread

Can almost sense lots of strange occurrences happening with Cortana as it is. You know what joe public is like.

No they don't. MS has made sure they need to access your private files to work. That is the difference.

To the OP. Win 10 is up there with windows ME in my opinion. If win 10 brought something new to the table then maybe but it doesn't.

It goes deeper than that.

Lol! Windows ME was a train wreck.

I guess it is a trade-off in this digital age - how much is one prepared to yield in the pursuit of improved features/services.

I just cannot understand how collectively people are willing to throw so much personal data to companies be that microsoft in this case, google, fb that they can monetise into huge profits.

it is effectively living inside a "glass house" digitally

and nudists and thrillseekers aside, i doubt many of us would be willing to live in a glass house in real life

so why should our digital lives be different?
