Windows 10 is it the worst ever version ?

yea of course - loyalty cards are the forefront of huge data mining operations for the likes of tesco, asda et all

using facts such as people generally shop at the same time (be that weekly, monthly, etc) and generally purchase the same items (outside of promotions) these companies can pre-order stock based on these trends and use targeted promotions to drive trade.

but i think that is outside the scope of this thread

My GF always asks me "why are they sending me vouchers for Whiskers when we never buy that cat food?".

I tell her that's the point...

Everything is data-mined, and has been for years - do you have a nectar card? credit card? store card? entered a competition? Gone to a GP (soon to be sold off or already done so) This is nothing new and will never ever ever change

Microsoft will use this data to deliver a few things, first being a better end user experience for those who want to use cortana and these features, secondly perhaps some targeted advertising, thats about it.

5 posts in and i can already tell your going to be a blast, previous banned user by chance?

Anyway it's simple, don't like it then don't use it and move on.

I guess it is a trade-off in this digital age - how much is one prepared to yield in the pursuit of improved features/services.

I just cannot understand how collectively people are willing to throw so much personal data to companies be that microsoft in this case, google, fb that they can monetise into huge profits.

it is effectively living inside a "glass house" digitally

and nudists and thrillseekers aside, i doubt many of us would be willing to live in a glass house in real life

so why should our digital lives be different?

Google recently saved me wasting 2 hours sitting in an airport waiting for a flight because it read my emails and alerted me that it was delayed before I'd left home. I did litterally nothing other than book the flight, Google Now did it all on its own.

Its saved me from many traffic jams and train delays in the past too. I find this stuff really convenient.

Some go on like it is. Or were never aware what was in the past.

It's the never aware bit that's the problem. This has woken a lot of people up and they think it's new, but in shouting about it they have just shown how utterly ignorant they have been up to this point. How did anyone think Sir, Cortana or Google Now worked before? Magic?

Sadly. They don't care or it hasn't affected them yet. The information has been out there about what has been happening. Then like most all you get is tin foil hat responses.

Probably the same lot that now care were the ones preaching tin foil hat and all many years ago. A bit like a political debate. Who can discredit the others the most to win the argument. Never saw that coming. ¬¬

thank you for your warm words of welcome (and no, not previously banned)

I am not impressing my thoughts on others in a declaration of i am right, you are wrong.

as to the OP, privacy issues asides I also find the UI to be horrid and disjointed.

microsoft had one thing to get right - the start menu - and imo they fluffed that with fugly tiles, deadspace in the startmenu, issues with arranging tiles, resizing (tho perhaps this will improve with updates)

windows auto-update is another huge issue for me as seen during the beta where a nvidia driver which caused boxes to crash was pushed out to everyone repeatedly. i know driver updates can be held back now but what if MS roll out a faulty patch in the future to similar effect (it has happened many times before).

also settings ui.. its as if the OS cant decide what bed to lie in between "new settings" and XP/win95 style CPLs

edit for typo.

To be honest I did like Windows 8.1 , it was not that bad . I do like Windows 10 and will wait , I did install for upgrade and did have problems with internet speed and slow internet browsing . Windows 10 was better and faster with better looking icons , seems Microsoft have got it right with Windows 10

While this is minor, perhaps subjective. The distinction between active and inactive windows is annoying. The subtle difference between active and inactive min/max/close sets it apart. They are that thin though it isn't that obvious.

Seems to still have lots of issues for me, right clicking on a file explorer window often crashes explorer, thought I had solved this one after uninstalling and then reinstalling 7zip but the issue came back the next day so not too sure.

Clicking on the windows store loads a loading icon but never loads, same with pretty much any of the settings in the new settings app thing.

Thinking that some/all of these issues are a result of doing an upgrade rather than a fresh install so will do a fresh install in a few weeks if updates haven't resolved the issues.

Update: Had a bunch of issues:

- Windows Update page would never load
- Explorer routinely crashed when right clicking anywhere
- Windows Store failed to load
- Chrome wouldn't open
- Shutdown would fail every time and state that the Task Window was still open and I had to force shut down

Performed a Windows reset last night which appeared to resolve all of these issues so I guess the update failed in some way

Updates have always, and will always produce random and inconsistent issues for different people. Its just an unavoidable issue as everyone's installation will be different containing different apps and settings and all sorts.

Resetting the PC like you have done will solve most problems off the bat.

Rather than reinstall, sometimes what I do if I have issues is to just create a new user account to use instead. It's a very easy way to fix things :) This is not Windows 10 specific btw, something that has helped with multiple versions of windows.

I am finding Windows 10 to be just fine.

I recall hating XP because I upgraded instead of flattening first. Once I flattened and installed fresh, it was great.

Flatten your computer and start fresh. Upgrading is a performance lottery.
