Windows 10

Question.

Once upgraded to Windows 10 and activated. How would using that Windows 8.1 key on a VM ware or something work out?

Need to get my theme set again as changed it and Win10 only has single image backgrounds. Kinda sucks.

I like shuffle backgrounds. But might just keep windows 8.1 on a VMware install. I guess I'll need another licence as its an "upgrade"?

you cannot have 8.1 activated with the same key used to upgrade to W10 its either one or the other as W10 uses the same key as your previous OS.

Just upgraded to Windows 10 and now Outlook doesn't send emails, they just sit in the mailbox with an error 0x800CCC13 :(

Seems like I'm not the only one either. Running sfc /scannow as that seems to fix it.

I ended up resetting to fix it then I found that.....

Grrrr

W10 causing issues with Steam Games, can't go fullscreen otherwise you just get a black screen. Really weird, other games work fine (Except BF4). Thinking maybe this is just an issue for those that did fresh install rather than upgrade..

I've not had any issues with W10 and steam games. I upgraded from W7 to W10 and then formatted and done a clean install with steam and games library stored on my second ssd.

if you upgraded maybe try resetting the OS to factory defaults or try a clean install of w10. what gpu do you have?

I have a problem in device manager for

Usb xHCI Compliant host controller (VIA USB)

Any ideas what I need to do to fix it?

Also in windows eventlog there is loads of red errors - are other people getting that?

Anyone having issues with Crucial SSD? (MX 100)

Samsung SSD seems fine, can run a bench test on it. Tried it on the Crucial and it just locks up windows. Also seems extremely slow, cant install games on it, GTA V installer crashed, Witcher 3 estimated 3 hours to install.......

just upgraded my second PC,laptop to Win10 via creatio tool, very smooth install even activated right after install,no issues in device manager so all good.

My main PC which has Win10 upgrade is also still fine,I installed the new AMD drivers 15.71 lastnight for 10 and all good, did play a few quick games ie ME3 and that was fine.

So 2 for 2 :)

I've not had any issues with doing the upgrade either, glad it went smoothly :)

So an update on my HP Stream 7 tablet...

It works. It works really well. Which was a bit of a shock lol. The upgrade has picked up a the drivers ok so everything works, and I quite like the direction they have gone with Tablet Mode too. Its not perfect and there are some annoyances I hope they change, but the shift to a persistent task bar with Windows, back, search and switch apps buttons is very familiar to anyone using Android. And the 1 button switch from Desktop to Tablet mode works well, and I imagine will be really useful to people with 'in between' devices like a Surface.

Now, if they can just get the app store filled with useful stuff we might be onto a winner.

Installed the night it was available and the upgrade worked perfectly.
Cortana works but I need to try and get used to the context part e.g. when i ask it to open windows store and firefox is open it keeps searching for the store in a new browser tab.
Hopefully the scheduling will be useful and I really like the action centre.

Was there not supposed to be a big update to One Drive? I was sure I had read that the new version would let me have a synced One folder folder that 2 or more different users could access in file explorer. Instead I still only seem to have the older method of 'sharing' ?

I'm still having trouble activating my copy of Windows 10 after doing a clean install (I originally upgraded from 7 Ultimate to 10 Pro, all activated fine once done) can anyone confirm which version of Windows 8.1 the MSI GS70 Stealth Pro originally shipped with? I originally thought a couple of nights ago that it may of been 8.1 Pro and as a result I opted to download the 10 Pro version.

The version I did a clean install with from the USB drive was 10 Pro and it failed to activate this time round, so therefore I then started from scratch again but creating a 10 Home pro ISO on the USB drive and then installed that instead and still, it failed to activate this morning. I believe that I am now running on one of the generic 10 Home product keys for the time being, could it still be the case that the activation servers are still taking a good beating?

Many thanks - Liam.

Can't access any of my network drives anymore after updating to Windows 10, it has completely broken it.

After an update from windows 7, it worked the first boot but after a reboot its now broken and i cant even connect to the Windows 8.1 machine that the drives are in.

Infact im pretty sure it was converting my user account into a microsoft account that broke it, seems to be a lot of results on google from windows 8 doing the same.

EDIT: converted my account back to a local account and now i can access the network shares again.

Absolute shot in the dark here, and probably not related to your issue......but were you using PIN access to logon instead of password ?

One weird thing that was present in the RTM (and I'm going to assume the final release, though I haven't tried it), was a limitation put on certain network related services when using a PIN logon, usually following a fresh install rather than an upgrade.
Was very strange, as it had a number of people, including myself, jumping through hoops, re-configuring services on NAS devices, editing Windows settings etc etc, with very little success...............................and all it was in the end, was the PIN logon (which is very handy to be fair) blocking certain services from starting up.
Switching to normal password immediately solved the issue.

Not sure if this has been posted but it appears Nvidia has an SLI bug in the windows 10 drivers, although some are reporting its only happening to older cards (6 and 7 series).

It is because of the driver, for any reason your games duplicate the proccess running that module of the directx, in other words, the proccess get into a loop and it never stops creating textures until your graphic cards cant hold such amount of textures.

Nvidia has said their working on it, workaround is to disable SLI (cause everyone wants to do that!)

EDIT: Seems someone posted it in the Nvidia drivers thread :(

To get my WDTV Live working with network shares I had to disable "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers" within Network and Sharing Centre > Advance sharing settings.

Only problem now is that my GPU clocks keep getting stuck on max. It's bloody annoying. Thought a reboot fixed it earlier, but it's back again.

I am still waiting for mine to activate following a clean install. I did upgrade first and that activated fine.

Following a clean install I have had no luck. Even tried installing again to see but no joy.

Speaking to their online team they advised they are still having issues with their activation system and to not be concerned. May take a few days by all accounts.

I thought this may of been the case as well - thanks for the heads up.

Liam.

Nope, all my games have been working fine in Steam and I did a fresh install.

When I installed Win10 on my Samsung laptop lastnight I left it on all night, when I woke up all done and activated,my main PC the day before took a full day to activate to 10 due to the activation servers being overloaded, but yes it'll eventually activate if done via the upgrade path first.Second time you can do a clean install if you have previously upgraded and activated it.

Laptop updated without and problems yesterday. My desktop hasn't shown any interest in receiving the update yet, but I read that MS may be leaving problematic hardware until later release waves until the drivers are stable so I'm not going to force it.

Pleasantly surprised when playing Hearthstone last night. The Xbox live panel automatically popped up and let me use the Xbox DVR and save clips to my Xbox profile. No idea how it knew when to trigger that, but it's kind of clever.
