Windows 10

They are going to have to detune that change algorithm, especially if they have useless off-shore support at call centres that can only read scripts and are recommending a reinstall of two OSes and then restore from backup.

What's the easiest way to see why an upgrade failed? My Dad tried to upgrade his Windwos 7 box last night. It seemed to go ok but then set for several hours at a black screen following the black screen with the large percentage complete circle.

After about 4 hours he power cycled the box and it recovered back to Windows 7. he wants to try again but it would help if we knew what was going on the first time.

Swapped my motherboard out diagnosing a tech problem and went online to ask how to get activated again (had retail win 8 key so was hoping the phone option was the case). Got told my only choices were to downgrade and upgrade again or buy a new license.

Turns out the motherboard wasnt the problem, put the old one back in (so hardware config is the same as previously activated windows install) and it hasnt reactivated yet. I'll be giving it a day before contacting them but it appears to me at least, even the way they want it to work isn't working properly.

I haven't had any activation issues myself, even after a clean install and a new hard drive, I also updated my bios to the latest available and that worked fine too.

Is there not the old automated activate by phone option not there? where it gives you a big code on screen to type into your phone, then it gives you an activation code back.

Ive replaced my CPUs (2x Xeon L5520 -> 2x Xeon E5640) ive also swapped my Ram (8x2gb -> 8x8gb) and luckily I haven't had any activation issues, my next move is to migrate from an old 2tb 2.5" Sata bootdrive to a 256gb SSD... ive a feeling that might not go as smoothly.

All the posters with reactivation issues, can you say whether you have retail or OEM systems and also whether it is Home or Pro win10.

Has anyone updated to the new insider build? I haven't yet until I hear some reports lol Apparently a few of the reg hacks for coloured title bars etc are now within this build.

The backup tool has been changed, and it isn't immediately obvious how to simply make a system image without turning on file history, and having it decide what file types and history it wishes to generate.

I am still messing about to get it as I want it to be.

The beauty of learning!

Flashed my BIOS to a newer version and, days later, changed my CPU. Windows 10 remained activated through both changes.

Anyone else have slow SD card performance and if not what do you use to get good copy speeds? I tried copying music to my sansa clip and it goes very slow and if i rename a bunch of folders and disconnect it, the changes never save. I tried using an sd card reader as well and it had the same result? It might be the card but its a 32gb 10 class. Anyone have fast sd card performance?

Another issue is that when i am copying flac to my sansa clip windows 10 always offers to convert the files. So annoying. Plus it always stops on txt files asking me if i want to copy them. I much preferred it when it just detected the device as a drive (like in win7) and not a device and didn't try be smart.

Another thing it does is auto-rename the folders based on the ID3 tag information or something. I end up getting all these annoying folder names on the device like DB360000_Thealbumname. When the folder is name correctly Artists - album (year). Stuff like this realy bothers me.

Was going to wait a while after the failed upgrade attempts but can't resist. So backup of current system done and I'm ready to perform a clean installation of Pro retail.
