Windows 10

Noticed that on my PC as well, bloody nuisance. If I turn my monitor off and back on Windows will automatically switch the default audio source to the monitor even I though I disabled the monitors audio.

This was never an issue in Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 before the anniversary update and it's getting on my bloody nerves having to change my default audio after reboots or I turn my screen off and on. Other than that issue everything is perfect.

I'm using the motherboards Realtek ALC1150 and LG TV as a monitor.

Im assuming the TV is getting its sound via HDMI?

If so, what is setup in Nvidia control panel? It can sometimes default to HDMI audio unless its disabled in there.

Even if its not getting its sound from there still check.

I had the same issue and it was due to NVC, defaulting my sound to my main monitor which in turn changed the windows settings

Potentially an odd one, but we recently had a large/slow upgrade to windows 10 at work, 1511. And the start menu I managed to configure like this:

ynPBycC.png
.

My pc at home ran through the upgrade, and I cannot for the life of me get the start menu anywhere near the same, despite choosing all the same options. I can get a screenshot to show it better, but rather than the full width File Explorer/Settings/Power/All Apps, they're just icons, and the entire pane is filled with the program list. And I really don't like it..

You can't do that any more AFAIK with 1607 onwards - it sucks and I've complained about it a lot but to no avail.

Oh jeeze. I guess 1511 is the latest build available at work through our software distribution catalogue. I just figured because the updates were done at roughly the same time (and both took about an hour!) they would be the same update.

It's awful!

Its daft - I've bitched and bitched about how it should be optional but talking to a brick wall apparently - they've had more than long enough from my first feedback when it went live on the insider builds to do something with it :S

Depends on the management system. System Centre Config Manager 2012 (with all the updates) stops Windows 10 support at 1511.

Windows 10 1607 required a wholesale update to the current branch or whatever they've called it now they've removed the date...

my Anniversary update keeps freezing at 32% installed (just after the second reboot) and the only thing I can do is hit the restart and the computer rolls back... :(

Probably a silly question, but are you sure you are leaving it long enough, as it can be a very slow process on some computers?

1511 was released in November, your work has just been slow rolling out.

Why the new picture lock screen you have to press a key to go through/past?

And no way to turn it off (as before)?

Daft!

Its MS's way or the highway - this isn't an OS built for the user.

It's just pointless annoying faff? *confused*

Why do I want a picture to needlessly pop up when I go to a lock screen after X mins, solely then to have to press a key to proceed to my login screen.

If you just make sure that you dont have to re-enter the password after the scrensaver, then it wont come up then... the screen will just come back up when you move the mouse or tap any key.

There is NOTHING that Windows 10 does, that I have any care for at all, that Windows 7 didnt also give me.

In fact, Win 7 was the pinnacle of perfection and the point at which MS were surely king, but since 8 came out , MS has simply gone down hill for me, and them trying to stuff Win10 down our throats was too much for me.

Funny thing though with that, but If you install Win7 and crack it, then upgrade to Win10, it thinks you have a legit Win 10!

I think that MS are trying too much to guide Windows towards tablets, and thats just bone idle of them.

Thankfully, you are able to fully disable everything like that because I have almost completed my move to Linux, and there is no nothing that I need in Windows that I dont also have in Linux other than 2 games that I have not yet got working fully under Wine.

How do I once and for all stop Windows from restarting my PC? I have changed it in group policy but this is ignored. I do not want my PC restarting at all, without my permission. Windows also now ignores the blind thing over the login password which I also changed in group policy to not display.
