Windows 10

I got the new bluetooth Xbox controller and I'm trying to pair it to my pc on windows 10 but it just comes up with this. Anyone know what the code is?

Im using the Front Panel with my Asus card aswell as the rear for 5.1 Surround. Theres some strange audio brand in bios that i've never heard of, something to do with Asus SupremeFX Audio? Anyway i disabled that, will see how it goes over the weekend.

Thanks for the heads up about the bios, it disabled HD Audio in there too though front panel still works, my previous Z68 build didnt have a problem with what im having right now so it must be the board.

I really dont like the bios in this Asus Pro Gaming, but i guess im stuck with it now.

The front Panel either connects to the Motherboard OR the sound Card.
What it should do, is simply allow you to connect the Headphones and then that will automatically disable the Audio from the main speakers when the headphones are connected.

Exactly what Motherboard do you have?

My Asus boards are nothing less than delicious and quite frankly, perfect.
The BIOS too, is brilliant.

I am lucky in that I have a dump load of PCs for god knows what reason... I have to confess, but I am very much a hoarder when it comes to PCs - ( Its OCD for sure ) - and ASUS and GIGABYTE are my favourite boards. Not owned an MSI for some time, and only just last week, I bought a High end MSI Gaming Laptop that has a delicious BIOS I will admit, but at just shy of 3 grand, I bloody well expect it to.

Now, as for the front panel, I dont know if you are o about any specific type, or you just mean the Headphone & Mic connections that are on most cases, and in which case, the connection will have either AC97 or HD Audio ( or both of course ). Now, the only Xonar cards that I have, that have the connection, is the XONAR DG and the DX. These are prett much the same thing but one is the PCI and the other is PCIE
My main MediaCentre PC has the XONAR DG and that is connected with the header using the AC97 one... I can chose which one in the driver options actually and so I am not sure it matters, and in many cases it does not, but try them, just in case.

I am a weirdo when it comes to SoundCards and I have for a very long time now, gone with Creative cards that give me the live drive 5.25" add-on and only recently my Recon3D which also has that, was changed for an Asus Strix Raid Pro as that has an external box thingy, but that seems to be the worst card I have ever had for messing me about, and so I bought the Creative Omni to have a play and I kind of sort of like it... Im using it now anyway. I should just put the Recon3D back... It did start to go iffy, but then so did a few other things and I have done afresh install since then, so who knows? maybe its fine?

Omg im getting so annoyed at this crap now.. why is it such a battle to stop M$ installing Realtek drivers that im not even using cuz i have an Asus freakin sound card installed??? I set the Device Installation Setting to 'NO' but hey! M$ still install them anyway even though i have disabled everything Realtek ( device settings etc) on my PC.

How about giving ME the CHOICE to install which drivers I want.. ffs i'll be back on Windows 7 if this **** keeps up.

M$ are a joke.. Im surprised they didnt install some older AMD driver for me while they were at it.

I have an old Asus Z68 board, what I did was disabled onboard sound in BIOS, my ASUS Xonar DX works fine in Win10, Win10 does not try to install any Realtek sound drivers.

Asus sound drivers I use are the latest ones from their website. Last point check what is default sound, when I installed my AMD video drivers a few days ago, Windows decided to switch my Xonar DX default sound to basic sound from my monitor speakers.
Hope this helps.

Is there a way to pin something to the start menu, without it turning into an ugly tile to the right?

I just want it pinned as a small icon/tile on the left just as most recent/most used are, but just permanently there.

I searched, and couldn't find anything, so I'm guessing as with most stuff on win10, the answer will be something 3rd party like classic shell.

I'm on the anniversary update.

You can make tiles small on the start menu if that helps (right-click on the tile).

You used to be able to then they decided to change all that functionality for the permanent all app list :S

I just stick em as small(er) icons on the menu as above.

Thought that might be the case :(. I know you can make them smaller, but I just don't like the box that pops out to right, I think it makes the start menu look awful (well worse than it already does :p), especially as it has a load of wasted space, as the box doesn't seem to resize. Of course I have all the default apps unpinned to get rid of it in the first place, so maybe MS doesn't expect you to do that and cause all the empty space.

I installed classic shell, that went fine and can make a nice looking start menu and let me pin in the way I want, so I guess it'll do for now, hopefully it doesn't get broken in future windows updates.

Just upgraded to Windows 10 as had done it on the past on a spare Windows 7 key.

Start10 is a god send as I hate the new start menu where it shows all your programs, I like them neat and hidden away. Anyway got it looking like Windows 7 but with all the pros of Windows 10.

Since the anniversary update for Windows 10 I've found that every time I reset my PC, Windows will change my default speakers to the monitor speakers in my Dell U3410. I can revert to my desktop Creative speakers by going into the Sound menu and telling Windows to use my Speakers on the Asus Xonar DX as the default audio device. Any idea why Windows is doing this? I understand that my PC has the monitor connected and therefore that Windows can see it but why is it changing my default speakers for me?

Noticed that on my PC as well, bloody nuisance. If I turn my monitor off and back on Windows will automatically switch the default audio source to the monitor even I though I disabled the monitors audio.

This was never an issue in Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 before the anniversary update and it's getting on my bloody nerves having to change my default audio after reboots or I turn my screen off and on. Other than that issue everything is perfect.

I'm using the motherboards Realtek ALC1150 and LG TV as a monitor.

You can configure the start menu pretty much how you want anyway, no need for extra bloatware start menu programs. :)

Can't get rid of the all app list now though (other than with replacements which kind of defeats half the purpose of 10) :( which just makes it look messy and less efficient to find what you want quickly with the additional visual noise.

In 7 I have it similar to the above screenshot - but with my most used programs pinned to the task bar and utilities pinned to the left hand bit of the start menu. In 10 I have utilities, some "widget type functionality" for live weather, etc. tiles and quick links to options on the right hand bit making full use of the extra tile functionality.

Glad it isn't just me. :) Not using on board sound and, as you say, this was fine with Windows 8/8.1 and 10 before the W10 anniversary update.

Hello all, this has probably been covered in here before but I cannot see anything on the subject. I am upgrading my system next week and have windows 10 pro currently installed on my current system, this was the free upgrade from a Windows 7 installation. Now my question, how do I go about installing Windows 10 on my new system without ever having the physical installation disk.

I should be able to find the Windows 7 disk somewhere so is it possible to install this again and update once installed to Windows 10?

Hope that makes sense. Cheers.

10 upgrades still work, just did one today.

You can also reactivate now on different hardware as long as you are running anniversary and you are signed in with your Microsoft account.

Once you change your hardware (assuming same install) you go through activation troubleshooter and select the changes hardware option.

Been trying to install Update KB3176493 for god knows how long.

Just says it couldn't complete the update and reverts the changes.

I've tried:

A clean boot.
Restarting with everything disabled in Task Manager and Sys Config.
Safe Mode.

I've no idea WHY it won't update.. What do I do?
