Windows 10

I was too furious and ordered the xbox one version so am now in that boat and there's no turning back :o

well Update Assistant and Media Creation Toll both refused to upgrade my laptop. So I'll just format them later after backing up a few things.

If it ain't broke, break it.

Although it says " HID Compliant " as it it is a forced driver install without signatures, it is being picked up as a XBOX 360 Controller just fine ( Works perfectly in Streets of Rage 4 ).

I'd been considering the upgrade for a year as been fed up with the dpad design for ages but just could not justify the cost of the xb1 pad until last night! This pushed me to the shopping basket lol.

I'd been holding off playing streets of Rage 4 too much as the dpad is not as nice as a Nintendo style dpad as per xb1!

Good to know it works though!

Sooo what's actually new in this update?

So far all I have noticed is a GPU temperature (why they didn't do a cpu temp I don't know) and some cosmetic changes to the network connection section.

Only thing i've noticed so far is that the WASAPI driver in Musicbee is far too quiet now and I can barely hear it (Using the latest version of the software - 3.3.7367 Released on March 11, 2020)
- ASIO playback seems to be unaffected.

@LoadsaMoney what does yours say?

Havn't got it yet, not showing up when i do a check for updates, so i must have something on my rig, that needs an update to support it (its probably my Avira stopping it), but im not too fussed, if the 360 wireless adapter is borked on it :p

Got 18 months anyway, so theres plenty of time :D

I thought there where some gaming updates, like a new DX12 version etc?

'Ultimate'

Ultimates in there as far as im aware, just need drivers, which are supposedly coming June/July from Nvidia.

AMDs are probably not coming until Big LAVIs released, as thats when they'll have support.

EDIT:

Apparently MS are saying not to force install, due to multiple issues. :D

and so it begins

Due to these issues, Microsoft is putting compatibility hold on Windows 10 devices that may be affected by these bugs. The company has also advised not to manually install the update using the Update Now button or the Media Creation Tool until the issue that affects your particular machine has been addressed.

Im affected (360 wireless adapter issue), so that could be why it ain't showing for me, and i do use Bluetooth, for connecting my phone. :p

Probably get a patch for it on Hose Tuesday.

If i wanted to create the installation media, using the Media Creation Tool, could i use one of my Maxtor M3 Portable external USB drives, instead of a USB stick ?, as i can't find my stick, and ive got a couple of these drives spare.

As if it ever shows up for me, i'll back all my stuff up, and give it a go, and if it effs up, i'll just do a clean install, and pop my stuff back :p

^Don't see why you couldn't use an external HDD, although have never tried.

Rather than clean install if you have to revert, why not take a Macrium image or even use Windows own system image?

Currently trying out 2004 on a VM, no issues so far other than it seems to break VirtualBox's 3D acceleration.

I forced it on my main machine with Update Assistant, and the only problem I had was with an old piece of hardware with very old drivers. The original maker had been bought out and only the old drivers were offered, but the new company made other drivers that were about seven years more up to date, and they worked fine after a manual install.

Otherwise everything seems to be working, doesn't feel sluggish or anything.

Yeah may be worth trying it. :)

I was going to clone it, but not much on tbh, its mainly Steam, so if i did a fresh, it wouldn't take me long to get that back on, and my games copied back.

Found a plus oojtn of this new update.

I often connect to my PC using SMB over WiFi from my phone like if I want to send photos or transfer stuff between phone and PC. I use Solid Explorer on the phone for this and for ages, the last major Windows update, the first cold connection from the app to the pc would take 20 seconds, thereafter it was instant until some hours had passed and it would take 20s the first time again.

This issue is now solved with the May update. Instant connection every time!
