Windows 10

Much prefer Pro due to the functionality provided by the Group Policy editor which is the only real way to have control over updates.

One of the things that annoys me the most about 10 is that you can't just buy Pro and properly have more control over it (like the whole idea of a pro version of an OS!) - though group policies go some way it will still do what it wants to a degree. I don't really care what they do with Home if we have options even at a cost.

Interesting one at work as they twice halted 10 deployments due to undesirable behaviour from the OS, then went ahead after finding a company that does a very thorough custom deployment with a lot of stuff disabled - but even then after awhile we've found it starts kicking up a fuss about missing updates and is causing freezing issues with some devices due to issues with some updates causing a lot of messing about by IT. (I think in the long run they are going to resign themselves to moving to a version of Linux and the extra work/cost of getting custom apps, etc. developed).

Really wish there was a viable alternative to 10 other than just sticking with 7 the developers have lost the plot.

Isn't the 'Pro' version just a Microsoft thing?

Not uncommon with OSes though to have a "home" or general user aimed variant and then a variant aimed at business and power users with more advanced options and/or less hand holding, etc. which is what the Professional version should really embody.

What i find annoying is, these optional bug fixes, they get forced through after a while anyway, so why not just make em mandatory from the off. :p

I may as well just install it now, as it'll be installed anyway next Tuesday, with the security ones. :D

Can someone help me, im having issues installing windows 10 on a new machine and I cant tell if its a hardware issue or an issue with Windows.
Hardware:
GPU:AMD Radeon 6800
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5800x
Motherboard: MSI X570 Tomahawk
RAM: 4 * 8GB Corsair Vengence 3000MHz
Storage: Samsung EVO970 Plus 256gb AND Samsung EVO970 Plus 1TB
I have done the bios update so my Motherboard accepts the Ryzen 5800x and everything displays correctly up until I try and install windows...

Basically I go through the steps, provide my key, and where I want to store my OS, computer restarts and says please wait a moment but screen then goes blank, occasionally I can see the screen display something for a split second before going blank i.e. region and language.

Im not sure what the issue might be and have been trying to install windows for a while now, could someone help me please?

I know two people who have had issues with the latest update. In one case, the Media Creation Tool had to be used to repair Windows.

Yeh there's been a few people who has had issues that I know of and a quick repair resolves it usually. I keep doing a sfc /scanow when I do an update now just to double check there's been no errors anywhere. Takes couple mins to run but usually comes back fine now.

i installed the updates just after 6 when i checked.

Still sporting 1909 here and still don't see today's update on Microsoft's site yet.

In the meantime, I ran Windows Update and it gave me this little beauty:

Not looking good for me, the 460319 one, is taking a bloody age here, a good 10 minutes or so on 43% installed, then it moved to 73% installed, stayed there for about another 10 minutes, now its gone to 74% installed, and its still sitting there! :(

EDIT: Just looked in the TM, and my drives not even going, so its doing nowt.

EDIT: Jesus, its ok, successfully installed, took nigh on 50 minutes.

Was on 74% for bloody ages, then it finally finished and did the pending restart, did that, got something about a HID thing preventing it from restarting, so just hit the cancel, got the configuring windows, stayed on there for an absolute age, before the 0% popped on, then again, it stayed sitting on 0% complete for god knows how many minutes, before it eventually made its way to 30% and restarted, where it absolutely tricked its way to the 100% complete, and my desktop finally appeared, **** me, i was on the verge of digging my back up drive out!.
