Windows 10

Wtf is going on here, ive just opened VLC, says theres a new version, download, it, say yes, then says close VLC, and install now, say yes, but it won't install, doesn't do anything, so i downloaded it from the website to install, but when i run it, the MS store things popping up in the middle, saying the App im trying to install, isn't a MS-Verified App, wtf ive never had that before

Is it because my app settings set to only the MS store, which is odd, as when i scroll down the list of apps ive got on, VLCs there, unless ive changed that app setting to the store only (which come to think of it, rings a bell :p)

They not tying app updates to the app store are they? Sounds like this may be the case.

Right, done some Googling, and found VLC is on the MS Store, so i don't know whats going on, so i fired VLC up again, and this time, a message from the VLC team came up, saying it can't be installed, due to a bug, and they're sorry :p, says to do it from the Temp folder, so i presume they'll fix it eventually, and thats probably why you can't install it from a manual download from the site, although i could probably change the App setting to 'Anywhere' to do it, and then change it back, if i wanted.

or you could just install it from the app store and be done with it.

Maybe one day you won't be able to install something outside of an app store. I can see it coming.
There would be a big backlash if that ever happens. I hardly ever bother with the App Store. If they ever went down that route they would lose a lot of market share. What they need to do is keep improving it and make people want to use it, not force them to use it.

They will do it slowly you watch. An app store is a lot more secure as long as the apps are been checked. Apple only allow you to install from the app store unless you bypass the security.

I just watched a video on the good old gamer about gaming on Linux. Proton has apperantly got to the point where it mostly works on monitors.

If/when it gets to where I can run my diving sims in VR, Microsoft can pound sand.

Ive never bothered with it at all, had this rig over a year now (could be coming up to 2), and not once clicked on the Store :p

I have used it when I got a game pass for a while. I don't like the way the games install in hidden directories which it does not even let you access at all as I recall. I just stay away from it now. They need to improve it a lot more before I bother.

Just installed the latest update and I get prompted to reboot as expected. Reboot. It says reboot again?? WTF? Tried rebooting another 2 times and still have the same message. Quality. :D
