Windows 10

Yes, but you are still talking rubbish. and no that certainly isn't the only way. Seing as serial keys are unique, or they could issue new serial keys.

Seeing as they have already covered this, not sure why you are carrying on.

Or you just use a place holder key, install win8.1 from an ISO and then once you are in, then change the serial key to your upgrade and activate.

How are people still nit doing this.

That has not worked for me im afraid, it dose accep initially, but a day or so later i get a message saying invalid key to that affect, last time must be about a year ago, so cant remember word for word, When going through for microsoft support they tell me its wont work at their end either, which is pointless, cause i can do that myself, then sometime they get me through to that system with the verification code, i go through all that and then it does not accept. Iv got the receipts from microsoft, the emails with the codes all allthentic and from them, but at the end they just cant help. or give me a new key. So i thought sod it, ill go back to windows 7 and stay there, but got the itch one bored day to upgrade again when i felt less demoralised and they keys accepted for W8, then i thought ill try my luck and the next key worked for W8.1 and no messages saying key invalid. So the only way to get those keys to work is to roll back to the first OS and keep overwritting it with every version.

Of course it will work for you. As it does for everyone else. The only time you have to talk to someone is if you don't press 1 when it asks how many computers its installed on.

This method won't activate for me either. Mine is Pro with the Media Center addon key and it has never worked for me. The free automated service activates it fine though.

Done it loads of times on standard 8 though.

So it does work. You always have to phone to activate after the first use on win8 upgrade keys and as long as you press 1 when asked how many computers it is installed on you are fine.

I can't for the life of me get my legitimate 8 upgrade key to work in a direct 8.1 install - highly annoying.

Then you are likely using the wrong ISO/place holder key.

Of course volume license key won't work on a retail ISO install. They never have.

Assuming you have the normal upgrade key that cost £25 at launch, or a bit more after launch.

Then just use this

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3c2hcaO4GgWbXB4Q0g5YkhHUVE&usp=sharing
And make sure you use the right one for you version. So if it's pro use the pro key.

Then once it's all installed go to control panel, system and change to your proper key. Then phone up and activate.

There is no need to faff about doing lots of upgrades and if it's not working you are doing something wrong.
Like try to use a volume license key, using the wrong version etc.

I have only ever had to do the automated thing when the customer support women pops it up from their end you put in all the numbers ect, and then it tells me that i need a genuine key. and thats after a couple of days use on my key which accepts initially from a direct install of a disk version i created from the link that is somewhere on here , and the placeholder key. Though the same keys work fine and still going strong without doing that verification at all for at least a year, rolling back to W7/8./8.1 all the keys are solid. Im guessing the keys are upgrade keys and there must be something left in that verify that, that a clean 8.1 install does not.
Are you using it on two systems? Certainly sounds like it, and if do off course you a re going to have issues.

Anyone with a genuine key does not need to faff about.

I used my recovery file I made ages ago for my Pro, put that on after I had taken 10 off and now I'm being told I cant activate either.

By who? On the phone? Or just the automated activation on the computer.
Generally after 1 install, then you have to phone up and as long as you press 1 when it asks how many computers it's on. Then it activates, never having to talk to anyone.

Automated on the machine, pita..
I'm already on the phone so guess I'll have to wait, unless our EA code works..

That's normal, after the first install win8 usually never auto activates. However it activates over the phone, all automated, no human.

It doesn't even matter about win7 keys it makes no difference.

Sounds like you have an isdue with one of the keys and they've flagged it as not genuine for some reason. Which has nothing to do with installing from a win8.1 ISO without upgrading.

As pretty much all of us on here have done that multiple times with zero issue.

Two new things revealed today.
Microsoft hello and Microsoft passport,
Looks good, they've tried finger print readers and stuff before but it's never really taken off.

but if they want to have it released with systems out there ready to buy for back to school then surely they will launch before september.

really hoping for a surface pro 4 with skylake at launch.:D

Skylake won't be out in time. It's realise date is a but if a bigger it's to late for w10, but it's a bit silly waiting a whole year for a refresh to utilise it.
Almost certainly be less powerful than pro3 due to core M. But fatness and less power hungry.

And the reason it's 3 months, is you have to give manufactures time to finalise the specs, mass produce them and get them to store. So I can't see them shortening it.

Micro-payments inc, Want to press the start button without a 5 sec delay 5 dollars please.

Although does make me wonder what they are building in place to want to push pirates onto Windows 10.

Windows store, office 365, one drive, Skype etc etc etc.

Just like android and ios. OS in this day and age needs to be free and it's not where they make the money these days for consumers.

I can't get it to install.

First time got to 99% downloaded and stopped there for several hours, so restarted it and now it's been stuck on 0% downloaded for ages.
