Windows 10

Does not matter really, you only have a month until the official version is available for download.

Yeah I know. I like to share with others. Why someone is being greedy not to share with others? It's nice to play with Windows 10 Build 10158 before RTM in July 29th.

I got twitter reply from Microsoft of why isn't Microsoft put on the inside windows for preview iso download link yet? They say they going to put on it later this week.

As to two steps instead of three, most of us pin or customise our OS so its available right a way ie one click, something I've done before XP,you or I could also argue UI usage is also subjective, some users find it easier then others even with the same OS in question.

Same here but when you need to go deeper i.e. for settings those tiny changes to how things are placed or categorised makes a lot of difference - atleast for people like me who Windows 7 works for.

I'd agree UI use is subjective also - for me and many others the start menu model works - but Windows 7 is tightly built around that model so I can see why it wouldn't appeal to you or many others with a similar view to you or specific accessibility requirements.

Might not be anyone could have been picked up by a bot looking for suspect software.

yipee, "hey cortana", is working in this build :D, will probably never use but so want.

strange this build wiped out my windows sounds settings, well the enhancement tab settings?

Not surprise usagescloud has deleted ISO file. As someone reported it for copyrighted. Waste my time for uploading. Whoever reported it are sad life!

Oh dear... but hopefully that will not effect folk such as myself and 'chippy' who currently have downloads already in progress?

If they do complete, then your efforts will not have been completely wasted, and are much appreciated. :)

So is this windows iso the rtm final one that will be out in a months time?

Can one use there windows 8 key and install a fresh copy via usb ?

before you do a clean install of windows 10 you will need to upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10 and then once this has been done you can do a clean install but you cannot do a clean install unless you have done the upgrade first

I hear what you saying but point was Vista by SP2 was very stable,at least for me,Win7 was just MK2 version of Vista IMHO.

Just to join in here., starting with I agree with this point as far as stability goes, but then Windows 7 improved on both speed and usability. UAC's reduced prompting being a good example of this. Many people do describe Windows 7 however as "What Vista should have been."

In many ways I consider Win8 to 8.1 more of a change/upgrade then Vista SP2 to Win7 ever was.

Really? Definitely do not agree here. In what way is 8 to 8.1 more of an upgrade than Windows Vista to 7?

As to Win8 well that was their first OS that you could call hybrid or all in one OS where Microsoft were changing direction from a pure desktop OS,obviously that will continue to evolve with Win10 and beyond, something some users or people do not realize, they expect a perfect hybrid or all in one OS from first release ie Win8,sorry Microsoft or virtually most Operating Systems take time to evolve, something some users don't realize especially when you consider the change in direction Microsoft went from, even Linux is evolving.

Yes Windows 8 is more of a hybrid than previous versions of Windows, but they could have made the changeover less alienating to their PC user base. At least Windows 10 seems to be them showing they have learned from their mistakes however. Well, some of them anyway. ;)

You are completely missing the point here. Do you really pin everything in the control panel to the desktop? Every little tweak and setting change throughout the OS? You are right that UI use in general is very subjective, but this is not what Rroff is pointing out.

One thing I miss in Windows 8 (and sadly does not appear to have returned in 10) is how easy it is to manage past and present wireless networks in Windows 7 and to change from Private to Public networks (and vice versa).

Presumably this will not apply if you are starting with an ISO of the Preview version (such as the one quoted earlier) and have a valid product key?

Surely the purpose of having an image file is so that you can effectively do just that?

(My download has 1 GB still to go!)

Without getting into a pointless argument here since we clearly have different opinions on things,I customise all my Operating Systems to my needs ,that goes for Linux as well as Windows, infact I have a pretty clean layout and have everything I need within one click in general, don't forget Win+X menu that has a lot of useful stuff.

Win7 and yes I agree about UAC ie IMHO only had two main improvements over Vista one was less UAC nagging and yes slight speed increase, however you could argue Win8 and especially 8.1 gives you more speed and features then Win7 ever could, again step in the right direction,I'm glad DX12 is on Win10 being I'm an avid gamer, wired of course but have wireless as backup which I've no issues with.

As to mistakes ,Microsoft have made plenty of those even before Win7 or do people have blank memories?... Cough cough WinME,but hey people think everything started from Win7 but they are very wrong,Microsoft will probably make more mistakes down the road and change things yet again sooner or later like they always do,no surprise there so sooner the people realize this the better.

I sometimes wonder how some users can even managed to use an OS,change a few things and suddenly they are stomped.

I also wonder how they going to manage when Win7 is gone for good ,should be fun to see how they handle their next OS.

Alienating again is subjective, have I ever been alienated by Windows?... lol hell no,even Linux has never really alienated me.

I make it simple, I make the OS work for me whatever form it takes, not hard to do.

Win10 I like a lot but you can bet be a lot of bitching and moaning, mark my words, some people are never happy even when it is handed on a plate.
:)

What was it some wise guy once said... "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you will never be able to please all the people all of the time."... something like that anyway! :)

Noticed my son had the win10 icon in his task bar the other week but still nothing in mine.
so decided to force it with command prompt :D

Now I have a lovely upgrade icon too

almost excited for win 10 :D

Mine only appeared on the task bar of my laptop this morning, so it looks as if some are still 'coming through'.

Will now wait for the 'official release' to appear... well on that particular machine anyway!
