Windows 10

Personally, I love Windows 10. I've updated both my Windows 7 desktop and Windows 8.1 laptop and have had zero issues.
I prefer this UI, it's clean and sleek. Those with concerns about finding things like Control Panel and the old style Windows Explorer, they are still there.

Right-click the Start button = lots of Control Panel related items, including the full Control Panel itself, simple.

To restore a 'normal/old' looking Windows Explorer, open File Explorer, then simply go to File - Change Folder and Search Options - Select 'This PC' in the dropdown. You now have an older looking File Explorer where it shows you the drives etc.

Since upgrading from 8.1 to 10, my laptop now boots much, much quicker and the desktop is ready to use quicker aswell. No complaints from me so far.

@SkeeterUK the reason why MS as released win10 as it is, is because it's an on going project. they had to have a starting point then start fixing issues/bugs people are having. some may say it was to early to release. but you have to remember no OS is bug free/perfect, also win10 is a multi platform os like win8/8.1 so you'd expect more issues/bugs than a single platform os....

Thanks for that! Quick Access was starting to annoy me.

Few little nice things:
My W10 computer eats 15W less out of the wall when idle compared to when it was running Windows 8.

The Start button, when highlighted, doesn't cause power consumption to jolt up like the Win 8 editions.

Edit: Win10 is exactly the same as Win 8.1 in power usage except that the Start button in W8.1 shoots up power consumption by 35W for a couple seconds when highlighted.

x264 and HCenc encodes work at the same exact rate on both OS' with CPU maxed.

Back to 8.1 Pro after not being able to resolve the driver error with GTuhs62.sys reboot on start with my Samsung slate. So that's two back to 8.1, thanks for wasting my time MS.

Upgraded to windows 10 from 7 ultimate on my main PC. It was very quick and straightforward. I have had no issues at all so far and expect none. One has to keep up with the times but I was a little concerned having read all the horror stories from 8.0, 8.1 and latterly 10.

My spec is as follows

AMD FX9590
ASUS Crosshair V formula
Radeon HD7870 GHz
Sandisk 240 Extreme SSD
Crucial 240 M500 SSD
Seagate 480 SSD
16GB DDR3

Will post any issues, but so far seems good. My desktop is still recognisably my desktop with a few tweaks, a lot less than previous OS changes.

Give this man a medal.

How do I stop windows defender telling me every day it needs to scan my pc?

It started a few days ago. I let it do a scan. But every day it keeps pestering me.

There are no settings in defender it's self and I cant see any scheduled tasks or anything like that in the security settings.

i've got an issue with my one drive. it's trying to set it up again, i've been using onedrive since it was skydrive and have all my files still there.

when i try set up it says there is already a folder created, do i want to murge, i say yes, login with my account, and then it throws up issues with not having a music folder or picture folder which there is, however now the picture folder is empty, i need to get to user/me/skydrive to see the contents, if i go to user/me/onedrive it's just the folders but nothing in them, and it's asking for permission to view which i can't give.

any ideas?

Earlier on I installed a brand new hard drive and it corrupted my bootmgr, seems to be resolved now :( Was really enjoying Windows 10. I do now have the safely remove hardware for all my hard drives.

Finally got around to installing Win10 on 1 of my dual boots. Everything seems to be in working order except for, Cortana not working. I'll let it mature a bit more before I upgrade my main O/S though because as soon as it's installed I'll be updating the firmware on that SSD and it's a destructive update. After that I'll main Win10.

Win 10, seems to be better multi threaded/process than Win 8 and 7 before it.

Running the same tasks as before, is a) using less cpu and b) spreading it more efficiently across all the cores of my cpu.

And this is basic stuff, like encoding, whilst browsing and watching football. Also extracting large archive files doesn't seem to kick my cpu fan in any more. It stays silent where before it would ramp up.

Bad luck with that Cosimo, but unlike you to give up? No work around I take it?
