I can never understand some users getting hang up on Win7, what is special about 7 ie nothing really, you need to move forward sooner or later, not like Win7 is going to be around forever and has less then five years to EOL.
As to why I like 8.1/10 better then 7,well Win7 was really same as Win95, XP Vista UI wise,nothing really changed in almost twenty years,not many features/improvements over Vista SP2 let alone 8.1/10.
I like the layout actually better on 10, the Win+X menu(ie right click in left corner on Start is still one of my favourites from 8 which is on 10).
Win10 has a lot of new features over 7 and improved security, speed, just use Google to find them all.
As to DX12 sure great for gamers like myself, I should also mention you really can't beat Win10 for value ie free upgrade for most users on 7/8.
Should be interesting to see what Win7 users do when its EOL arrives.

The don't 'become legitimate', they are still Insider Previews and are licensed as such.
I don't think you need to install a Preview build, I think you can just install RTM from the ISO and then rather than activate it, go to Windows Update settings and click to receive Insider Preview builds, which then asks for your Insider account details and activates your install using the Preview license.
Choose the Slideshow background and pick a folder with a collection of wallpapers. You can't choose what shows where though. It's not bad though, if you have 2 monitors then just point it to a folder with 2 wallpapers. The worst that will happen is they'll switch round, which isn't a bad thing actually.
Just been looking into how I set slideshow running. I did it on my first install, but now (fresh install) it doesn't work at all when I select slideshow. When I select browse, the image folders are empty. If I select 'Choose this folder' then nothing happens. Any ideas?
**EDIT** Nevermind, maybe it was because it's a mapped drive. Put some in the 'Pictures' folder and it works from there.

I like the UI, performance is fine, and tbh, to hell with security features, I'm just a gamer/tvshow/film watcher.
I cannot say anything about 10 as I haven't tried it yet, but 8/8.1 was a huge step back in productivity, metro screen was a big pain in the ***, especially with 2 or 3 screens. I've had problems with wifi ( couldn't connect to uni/eduroam network most of the time), and some apps I used to use didn't work any more. 8 didn't offer anything interesting, the faster boot was irrelevant for me as I always use standby/sleep anyhow.
What speed improvements does 10 exactly have ?
Seeing as it requires a new activation every hardware change, no thanks, I change my hardware every 3 months or so...
Tbh I'd still be on XP if it had dx10&11, and had superfetch.

That's a serious problem if a BIOS update invalidates the upgrade. Especially on a new motherboard, there can easily be half-a-dozen BIOS updates in the first eighteen months, many of them improving stability and hardware compatibility.
I wonder what happens when you go into your BIOS and start "changing hardware" by disabling on-board sound, graphics, wi-fi controllers, etc. Does that invalidate your OS?

MS clearly want to bury their head in the sand.
After updating the BIOS my activation key was blocked, so waited on the chat for hours with the windows off to the side.

Yeah, because that's a good use of my time, wiping a disk, installing an old OS (which has to be updated for the Win 10 upgrade), then upgrading to a new OS (which has to be updated), then a day or two installing my apps and data. Last time I did an install, it took hours to even download and install all Windows updates because it is such a long process despite me running on fast hardware and a fat internet connection.
But MS support won't spend two minutes doing a override exception. What a bunch of incompetents.

It does. The other day I was trying to troubleshoot an issue relating to my mouse / USB. I noticed that there was an option in my BIOS to disable my secondary on board NIC which I never use so I thought "might as well disable it!". When I booted back up Windows was no longer activated, although re-enabling the NIC in the BIOS brought the activation back.
I'm curious because I installed with my iGPU disabled in BIOS, so I wonder if enabling that at any point will de-activate windows. I also wonder if something as minor as adding or removing a PCIe NIC would have also de-activated the OS, or if it somehow detected that the NIC was built into the motherboard and therefore "shouldn't" disappear.
