Windows 10

omg you guys should be watching winbeta podcast, hololens is amazing.

Does it not get locked to your motherboard once you upgrade?

no, you can just do a fresh install and enter your w7 / w8.1 key in. changed licenses about many times and never had an issue, some people do and you should be able to contact ms and get it sorted.

it basically keeps what ever license you upgrade from.

as to w8/10 ui debate. its a massive improvement over w7.
however can we please have tablet stuff back from w8.1 and keep the w10 stuff.

so IE metro browser, and for the love of god move the text box so you can see what you're typing, like it did in w8. rather than just brining the keyboard over the top of it.

I can understand adding and changing stuff. but I don't get why they remove options which work well.

I have 2 Windows tablets, both 10" jobs, one is a surface and the other a Linx. I have keyboards for both.

They are both very identical in so many ways, they are both 2GB / 32GB and what I have done, is set thm up so their personal folders are stored onto the 128GB MicroSD card, so they are like

D:\Documents
D:\Music
D:\Pictures

And so on.

The Surface is stuck with Windows 8.1 RT but the Linxwill lewt me install anything onto it and I have even plopped a few Linux distros onto it for testing. I have settled on Windows 10/64 and I have forced tablet mode and so it ONLY works in the tablet mode and its not too bad like that.

I try to do the same with the RT being 8.1 but the desktop does come up too often.
The Surface has a slightly better resolution, not much, but it doesmake small fonts a little easier to see, and the Linx is a tiny bit quicker, but I have NOT done any real benching.. I am only going by simply seeing how it does the everyday things like loading up apps and so on.

Oh and Win 8.x has horizontal scrolling while 10 has vertical. Annoying to me that is.

I don't understand how many people just accept it :( but then I've extensive usage of OSes/UI replacements that probably the average person isn't so familiar with.

EDIT: It is disingenuous to write it off as a work in progress as well really as an elegant UI is something you need to get right from the start atleast in the most basic framework of principles and practises even if you flesh it out more later.

Official programs or customised hacking procedures?

I'm just to say coping with it on my Surface 3 Pro, using Tablet Mode. But it's still a travesty, using Steam is a nightmare in Tablet Mode.

Do you not use continuum, surely when you use steam you have the keyboard plugged in and the system in desktop mode?

I've not got a keyboard?

I use Steam to launch the steam streaming service, why would I need a keyboard? The Steam UI's easy enough to press with my pen. Either way you split it, it's not as usable as it was with W8.1.

Anyone else having problems with updates, specifically KB3147458?

My laptop updated a few nights back (apparently the version is now 1511) which took about 20 minutes. Fast forward to today and my Windows randomly deactivated itself, downright refuses to reactivate and now the update above will not install. It just keeps reverting back to the previous install. It's been absolutely fine for months until these updates, which annoyingly according to information online I should have received weeks ago?!

Windows 10 on a tablet whether you use tablet mode or the desktop is largely a decided step back from Windows 8 :( and I'm not even a fan of Windows 8. If it wasn't for the fact I've a few Windows x86 programs that are handy to have I'd go back to Android for tablet use over using 10.

Sorry if this has been answered again and again but I can't remember. I own windows 8.1 and upgraded for free on launch. I now want to do a clean install so I grabbed the isolation but what do I do about a key? Again, sorry for the obvious question

Swipe navigation now in edge. On 14342
Now can we just get a tablet mod, and we will be back to where we were in win 8.
And addblock and plus is apparently available.

Why they released edge when they did was bizarre, even now it's not ready but getting far closer.
