They sure want people to upgrade, the only thing is that with past Windows versions they seemed not to care that much...

Generally because each version of Windows improved on the last so people were happy to even pay money to make the upgrade.
Now they're resigned to not even being able to give the operating system away.
Every version of windows seems to be getting worse, is it because there not putting as much money and effort into producing windows.. I upgraded to win10 a few days ago and it seemed more or less like win 8.1 accept with directx 12. But I couldnt get it configured how I wanted and I didnt really have time to figure it out, so I restored win8.1 again..
Personally I think there is a failure in project leadership - of late there seems to be increasingly a certain contempt for the end user mixed with narrow limited vision.
Windows 10 is a collection of great ideas with exceedingly poor implementation - even a child could see the problems with the default settings or style some features are released in. Some might write it off as MS testing the waters and/or using actual end user statistics to decide where to go with a feature but I don't believe that as they seem incredibly reluctant and stubborn to make changes that everyone else can see need to be done and often an experienced developer would not have even tried something of that nature in a release product even if they wanted to test if it was really as bad as it seemed on paper or not (sometimes conventional wisdom can fail).
I hope they do knock a few heads together and/or hire someone with better broad strategic vision as there is a lot of areas where on paper Windows 10 in a step forward but let down by so many aspects - for instance the app store should be much more of a simple flexible framework that is used as well for deploying and updating every non-kernel aspect of the OS i.e. stuff like defender should entirely update through it reducing the amount of downtime spent when Windows does actual updates and giving the end user better flexibility.

You can say all that again to Microsoft but they will not take any notice. There was a big rush to sort out the issues with windows 8 with the release of 10 then after they got that sorted interest at Microsoft just dropped off.
Rroff makes it sound like W10 was built by 3 people and one project manager.
All of the inconsistencies in the OS will have been caused by the fact its development team is massive and distributed.
Insider builds have been more regular post release than before it.

I simply do not buy that
The mish mash of UI (just look at devices, settings, networking) is horrendous and badly implemented
They knew it but released it anyway

Sure but there will be a relatively small number of people who actually sign off on features, steer the overall direction and call the shots, etc.

Microsoft are a strange beast really.
Think really they need a "normal" PC heavy user to actually tell them how to relate to end users.
Windows 10 I like, but it's all over the place, it's got old UI mixed up with new UI.
And we all know my thoughts on the tablet direction lol.

Personally, I have disliked Windows since 8
There has been so much of this rubbish about how good the New OS is, how good 8 then 8.1 and now 10 is... Oh its so much ebtter than 7 etc etc etc... What a laod of utter rubbish.
I have a couple of Apps that dont wont with anything after 7 and also I utterly despise the UI of the Newer O/Ses... They are clearly done to try to speed things up, but Windows 7 and hell Vista look a hell of a lot better than this boring load of old tosh
I really dont understand why MS are so determined to keep on dishing out the god damned awful apps and they should simply give up on their tablets and phones or if they absolutely have to, they should keep the PC seperate from them and stop wedging those apps into the PC and then forcing that boring kids UI on too!
It is total bone idleness on the part of MS to do this.
These days I only use MS because I have not yet managed to get a couple of games onto my Linux PC but with PlayOnLinux giving me some easy paths to use WINE, I am struggling to find a reason to keep bothering with windows at all.
I like eye candy and Windows 10 is simply nothing of the sort, its an embarrassment to me and I am justthankful for Window Blinds for now... Next reinstall its back to 7 though.

I have 2 tablets, the Surface and a Linx, I also have a Windows phone too. Just the 535 and I only use it in emergencies, but I was forced to use it for a few days last week and I am only thankful that I also bought an old Galaxy Ace for a fiver off the MM cos that is vastly superior to the Windows load of cobblers.
I really cannot understand why the hell people bother with Windows tablets or phones when the Android versions are vastly superior in every way...

I wouldn't want any tablet other than a Windows tablet, except Windows 10 for tablets is a downgrade on 8/8.1
I'm happy on Windows 10 tbh, dont see what all the fuss is about, have a few issues with some software for work but thats because certain devs in the industry are still ahppy to bang software out that runs on XP, Win7 at a push, 64bit, forget it...
windows 10 on desktop is great, windows 10 on tablet is a step back.
but it's really only due to two relatively small issues which ms could fix so easily, but aren't. need a metro version of Edge and when you use on screen keyboard then the text box needs to jump to top of screen, so you can see what you are writing, both of these where in w8.1
and apps are great. who wants to load rubbish email websites up.
Netflix app has a much better UI on the app compared to website.
audible is no contest the desktop app is just pure rubbish, while the modern app is great.
and it in no way stops you using desktop software.
which is why many of us much prefer windows tablets. apps and desktop applications on one system.
still disappointed by the tablet hardware especially mid price range,. high end there's a decent amount, low end there's some. middle of the road is pretty darn empty, or massively over priced. surface 2 is still the best tablet ive ever had. I want that tablet and os just with an M5 or m7 cpu
and anniversary update further improves it. Edge for a start is now usable and it's better than IE now.
context menus there's still about 6 different styles though, yet another simple fix which they aren't doing.
things are getting more unified. the setings is much improved and slowly but surly killing control panel.
quick actions is massive improvement, start menu is improved and list goes on.

I have now got windows 8.1 looking/feeling nice to use, pretty much like windows 7. Why change stuff when it isn't broke, but then again you can say that with the previous OS too, but ms is going backwards not forwards in my opinion.
