Windows 10

What? But I like that login page. It's the best default login background for Windows so far (subjective, I know)!

I guess there will be a way to bring it back...

The login page retains your lock screen image, rather than sliding it upwards and showing the login box over the blue logo image.

Its still in the OS as a default image, so you can set it as your lock screen.

I have become a fan of the constantly changing Showcase images. Its a nice surprise every time I lock my machine :).

Is there anyway we can re-detect a refused or uninstalled build?

For example: 14393 had a problem and i rolled back, only the problem was not with windows, so I would like to update again to 14393...

Ah ok.

I still like it as it is. I'm sure there will be a registry key change (or hopefully a tickbox) that I can keep it as it currently is. :)

The issue with my fathers computer where the get windows 10 app kept on complaining about a graphics card that was no longer installed has cleared itself as I fired it up to push through all the software updates before I did the windows 10 upgrade and the app still showed the not compatible notification, but after a failed attempt to install the latest version of iTunes and checking to make sure the internet was still connected (as the download stalled) and after everything and their uncle had finished with the hard drive I decided to look at the get windows 10 app again and while it was still stating that windows 10 couldn't be installed the information about the 6600LE was rather absent and when I went to look at the report it stated that it was good to go.

The only problem is that windows update is more knackered then it was on my laptop, so that windows 10 pro 32-bit disc I burned around the same time that I did my 64-bit variant disc is going to come into use rather soon.

Has there been any update about Onedrive placeholders yet?

It's absolutely destroying my ability to use it as dynamically as possible.

Whilst not a real replacement for placeholders there is a UWP OneDrive app which will show to the entire contents of OneDrive and let you open files from there.

If thats the case then I've really no idea what the features they are brining in the Aniversary update are?

Looks like they must have pushed that feature to my live account for testing/trial use (probably due to how much I moaned about it on the feedback, etc.) as with an update today I'm back to just having update and shutdown, update and restart or sleep as power menu options on my tablet and no options to shutdown without applying updates :( so annoying.

Atleast they should be back in a few days though with the proper release :S

While almost all of that is guff and nonsense, the bit about storing data across borders (specifically into/out of the US) is a valid concern they need to address.

We have had to halt a few Azure based platform role outs to customers as even with a very business focused product like Azure, it's actually very difficult to be 100% certain your data isn't going to end up on a US based server.

They now have some geographical zoning options, but even they are ambiguously worded enough to be less than convincing.

Its less of an issue for the anonymised consumer data, but its a major issue for businesses who work in environments where the regulations speficially state where their data can and can't reside.

About to do a clean Windows install after I put in the SSD.
Worth reverting to 8.1? My laptop's been a bit iffy since updating to 10 (Windows updated itself sneakily) but I suspect a fresh install and SSD will solve the problems.

Windows 8 can be a bit easier to manage than 10 on portable devices depending on your usage (better for input like touchscreen if applicable, tethering options, control over windows update) - about the only reason I'd consider it though.

If you aren't bothered by the windows update aspect or happy to use one or other system for disabling it that is one less reason to revert to 8.

Haven't had any issues with Windows Update (other than updating me to windows 10 without my consent!).
Haven't had any issues with the touchscreen either.

It seems that my laptop has developed quite the personality since upgrading to windows 10 since almost every time there's a large amount of hard drive activity, the system throws all it's toys out of the pram and tells the hard drive to stop accessing data (I can't do a disc defrag without this happening, and it was while I was doing one (without any other sound except for what was coming out of the computer) when I heard the read/write head on the hard drive slam home and stop accessing) which causes the system to lock up which can only be fixed by doing a forced power down.

There was a similar issue on windows 8.1 (and I think it happened on 8 as well) where the hard drive would stop accessing, but that happened rarely, only showed up when I was trying to access the file manager and was easily fixed by clicking the file manager button on the task bar several times which caused windows explorer to crash and restart.

Mcrosoft windows: ramming one side of itself into the other and locking up since 1995 and probably earlier.

Good point. On a pure touch device (I.e. ~7" and no keyboard) 8.1 is actually a much better experience than 10.

But both iOS and Android wipe the floor with Windows at this scale so it's kind of irrelevant.

I use an 8" Toshiba Windows tablet a lot - it is quite relevant to me - despite in many ways Android being better I don't think I'd go back to it now for tablet use - having the full Windows desktop to hand is just way too useful despite the loss of (or less optimal implementation of) some tablet functionality that Android has.

On my 10" Windows tablet it is less of an issue as that has an attachable Keyboard.
