Windows 10

Yeah its a pain - I've practically given up on my Windows 10 tablets :( only reason I still use my GPD Pocket is that there isn't really any other device that replaces its functionality and unfortunately no drivers for earlier OSes. (Its nice having a full Windows device with quad core albeit Atom Z8750, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage (upgraded) and 1920x1200 high quality screen that is barely bigger than my phone).

The reason I got rid of mine and replaced it with a Mac and iPad. Granted it's not all in one but I hated my Surface for many reasons. We've actually just got rid of them in work as the users hate them.

Bah - Windows! The latest update seems to have "damaged" my USB drivers. Rebooted today and my Logitech Unifying Mouse and Keyboard weren't working - Neither was my Wacom 4. Tablet. Nor my USB webcam. Device Manager said USB was working but the PC wouldn't detect the USB devices and showed lots of warning and question marks for these items. I have uninstalled the various drivers etc. and things SEEM to work BUT there are still warning lines in device manager. Not convinced all is OK.

Tried updating things from Windows, Wacom and Logitech but they say all up to date. I am afraid it's my ageing Motherboard (GA-EX58-Ud5) again.

Well - bought a USB3 (3 x USB sockets) PCIe card from OCUK and put that in - solved USB problems - so it is Microsoft!! No "unknown devices" now and webcam software detects the webcam whereas before it said no webcam installed!

SO - it was Microsoft messing up USB drivers - sole purpose of this update! March 5, 2018—KB4090913 (OS Build 16299.251)

I thought the whole point of things like the insider program was to catch bugs like that before hitting the entire population with it. It seems things are getting worse, not better. :D

One thing I don't understand is how compliant people are. It beggars belief really.

I mean is it really hard to simply not use Windows 10?

Because that is the ONLY way MS will ever fix their OS for the interests of the user instead of just abusing the user and stealing everybody's photos and data.

I don't think things have EVER been this bad in over 2 decades. Actions speak louder than words and the message MS seems to be sending out is "DON'T USE WINDOWS", yet more and more people are using it. It makes no sense.

Same thing with BBC iPlayer, they wanted to know all my personal details just so they could "recommend me programs based on my age" LMAO yeah right as if that's why they want my DOB, how about having the option of watching what I want to watch instead of having customised propaganda fed to me.

I bet everybody complied instantly and didn't think twice, but I haven't watched iPlayer since they started forcing personal data collection. Unfortunately resistance is futile because 99% of the population has no idea how to remain in control.

Sadly more and more people seem almost programmed to just conform and even get agitated when confronted by people who don't :( I almost feel like a conspiracy nut saying that but I see it more and more these days.

On another note seems (going by multiple user reports on the Windows 10 discussion forums) that in some Windows update around about 1703 they've added in some additional functionality that force re-enables the Windows update services, etc. after a period of time if you've not updated to 1709 or newer after awhile.

I don’t know what has happened but I can no longer disable updates on Windows 10 Pro. :/

It used to work but no longer.

Funny you should say that. I have W10 Pro as well and always have windows update service disabled so that it can't update when it feels like it and I update it myself once a month. Twice in the past week I have gone to shut the pc down only for it to display the updating windows message. Both times I have gone into services and found the update service to be set to automatic again. I then reset it to disabled but they seem to be able to override it somehow. I am sick and fed up with Microsoft forcing all this crap, what ever happened to having a choice? It's my bloody computer not theirs!!

I've been putting off installing Win 10 for a couple of years...my Win 8.1 install becoming almost totally corrupted (no network, internet, corrupted profiles, etc.), along with the OS drive having a few problems last Friday forced my hand.

It's taken until now (started yesterday) to install it on a brand new hybrid HDD. It kept whinging about failed updates/installations and taking hours to download updates.

Had to delete the S/W distribution folder a couple of times, but finally it's now up to date. What a pain.

That being said, initial impressions are good, I'll see how it goes when I get all my programs/games installed.

I work in IT and I'm getting sick and tired of Windows 10, every 6 months, they release a major update, but rather than addressing the issues that matter, like the UI inconsistencies, they keep adding stupid features nobody wants/needs or uses.

It's becoming worse and worse as time goes on, I also hate the attempts at being 'current' with the way Cortana talks during the Windows setup as well, a little wifi there, a little irritating **** there!

Amen to that - frustrating that with a little more effort and a slight change in approach it could be a really good OS instead its glitchy and annoying as ****. The official Windows 10 discussion group is filling up with complaints along this nature so maybe something will happen but so far anyone at developer level seems to be putting their hands over their ears while the community moderators are more often than not making scathing comments and occasionally threatening to kick people off the forum who are clearly just frustrated.

Well somehow they keep re-enabling the windows update service and I am getting fed up disabling it again every day. How can they do this when I have disabled it in services? They must have added another new service to check if it's enabled/disabled and to re-enable it again. Is that even possible? On top of that, since the last updates my pc is taking much longer to shut down. I am so tempted to go back to windows 7 as I just can't be doing with all this bs.

There's probably something in Task Scheduler that resets it regularly or when you log on.
