Windows 7

If I can get my hands on it I will be trying the beta. Why not dual boot. It's not as if any of us, don't have any small hdd's lying about the house.

What visualisation is that in WMP? Is it specific to WMP12 or a 3rd party one?
 
Pretty sure i've cracked it. Deleted the SCSI virtual disk and created an IDE one... apparantly some issue with VMWARE and the release not being able to detect the drivers.
 
you cant get a sense of what its like until you have tried it yourself, and a lot of what makes vista different to xp was under the hood changes not visible in screenshots, likewise with w7,. not all big changes are shiny

I'm using it now.

And it is identical to Vista only with a crappy taskbar.

I mean really, there is NO difference. They have moved a few random things about, changed the names of a few things pointlessly and changed the look of a few screens and that is about it...

What exactly are these "under the hood" changes of which you speak? Doing a little research suggests that there are not many of them and that Windows 7 is little more than Vista SE. I could understand it if this was a free service pack or maybe a cut price addon pack. But they are thinking of charging full Windows price for what is little more than them fixing the bits of Vista that should never have been broken in the first place plus a few random changes that don't need to actually be changed?

At least you can use the old style taskbar if you like. Though I don't like all the new icons.
 
i am assuming w7 will not all be aesthetic mod's , i mean i have it installed myself and i think the home group feature is a step forward , you got to remember that its still pre beta and we could see a lot more to come.

w7 will have a lower recommended specification as Microsoft are conscious of notebooks that are selling with linux pre installed, they want w7 to be scalable and efficient for notebooks , so a lot of work has gone in w7 to be more efficient in general.

*sigh* This is why pre beta code shouldn't be available to the general public....

Thats EXACTLY how windows Vista was at first, litrally Windows XP with some new colours and themes and a few additions at first..
 
Even in this version, they've made a few things easier and improved. For example, you can now pick a wireless network to join from a Jump list, which is far faster. UAC has been tweaked significantly - by default, you now only get a prompt when you're installing software and not on every single setting change, and it's not nearly as intrustive. You barely know it's on. IE8's an improvement, although Vista will get that.

We're not even at Beta stage yet - if Vistas anything to go by, the featureset won't be locked down till around Beta 2.
