Windows 7

Windows 7 beta 1 is to be released in December. Are you going to download and upgrade vista or wait till it's released?

I'll probably wait for Windows 8 or only install Windows 7 if I do a motherboard upgrade(using OEM Vista at the moment).

All the features I have seen don't interest me so no real need for me to upgrade to W7.

Windows 8 is long away so that I think it will be after Windows 7 that MS want to put into market by Xmas 2009 >> http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/235014/microsoft-preparing-windows-7-for-next-christmas.html so Win 8 may come up in 3 or 4 years time or maybe longer as wee bit delay also Windows 7 will be last one for 32bits as Windows 8 will be 64bits only that Microsoft ditch 32bits once Windows 7 is release so W7 will use 32 and 64 then W8 will use 64bits only

Windows 8 wont be coming until 2013-2014 or later so just choose to stay Vista SP1 or upgrade to SP2 or move to Windows 7 before Win 8 is coming up.

Windows 7 using some of Vista kernel but some of change and redesigned but its still NT 6.1 as Vista is NT 6.0 -- I wait until Windows 7 come up and read some review, dont buy too hurry just read before you decide which one.

MS is back to aiming for 3 yearly releases, with major releases every other year - similar to Windows Server (2003, 2003 R2, 2008). That puts 7 at Christmas 2009/Jan 2010, and its successor in 2012/13. They're hoping never to have a 5 year wait again, as with Vista.

yes it usual 3-5 years for Windows OS so Im not sure which one I go for -- either upgrade to Vista SP2 or move to Windows 7 cos both are NT 6.0/6.1 so I may stay with Vista SP2 once it release in 2009 and wait for next Windows 8 in 2013-2014 instead of upgrade to Windows 7 so think best to stay in Vista cos I havent any problems with Vista SP1 as it still lots fast enough - maybe Windows 8 may good one than Win 7... dont you think? you know 5 years is much quick than we thought as clock run so fast - remember XP released in 2001 then now 2008 and nearly 2009 for new softwares, hardwares plus new technology.

there will always be options , i cant see Microsoft forcing a new way or regime onto users, that's anti Microsoft like, they never have done it i dont think they will start with w7., they cant afford to alienate a large sections of their customer base.

i think by the time w7 gets released it wil be a matter of changing a theme to get back to classic windows look.

Like the ribbon in Office you mean? :p

had a feeling this would be mentioned:) . you have a point and i stand partially corrected , but windows has a bigger customer base than office has and i compare it to how apple is able to make drastic changes with each OS , and they can afford to with its user base not being near as large as Microsoft's.

can you imagine how it would have been if it was Microsoft who changed CPU architecture like apple did moving from power pc to intel? it would have been more destructive. Microsoft have a very sturdy footing in business too, they have to please everyone all the time.

im not certain of this , but its likely the case giving history

It was a bit of a low blow but I think Microsoft will treat it the same way as the ribbon. They believe it offers better usability and if they include both it doesn't show much confidence.

I think it's stupid when you consider VISTA isn't that old and there where LOADS of different versions (home basic, home prem, bussiness, ultimate) now they are bringing out 7, probably with loads of other versions. I miss the Home, Pro, MCE and server days when it was simple.

I feel sorry for the people who pay for this for it to be outdated in a few years.

I think 7 is just going to rehash everything, 7-capable stickers, buggy as hell for a while.

Gah!! Why couldn't they just add extra cool features to VISTA in the next service pack, like being able to change the taskbar and giving better options to customize stuff. Perhaps more MS software like an anti-virus, ISO support, sometthing to replace paint and wordpad (if they are on VISTA), etc that way you have a more complete OS that doesn't need filling with 3rd party apps and you have better security by having an inbuilt, enabled AV.

And that's not to forget the learning curve, I mean if you work at tech. or support then you have a new OS everyone is going to start using, it just becomes a pain. I'd rather MS stick at a good OS like 2000 and XP.

How would they make money releasing a service pack instead of a new OS? This is the way it's always been since before Vista, so it's hardly shocking.

Yeah - exactly, that's what it boils down to, money. This is much worse than before, we had a huge line of Vistas, now we are getting 7's, have they released the list of different versions yet? most people I know only recently got VISTA so it's a ***** to be outdated already. I don't see why they should release an entire new OS but no one has a gun to my head so I can choose not to buy it.
