** WINDOWS 8.1 IS HERE - HELLO START BUTTON **

then just type in what your looking for, so much faster than clicking through a thousand files to find what I want. People need to move with the times instead of clinging to the past.

So we don't need mice anymore?

Welcome to the future, just type everything you need!

If steam os runs games fine ill be looking forward to ms share crash. ms to me means paying for stuff I don't want or need, or in the case of consoles paying for stuff that used to be free (like maps). Horrible innovation stifling company to boot.

So yeah, mark me a maybe.

I never said that we don't need mice. But I haven't used the start bar with a mouse since win XP, granted I skiped vista, but in 7 & 8 I just hit the start button and search for what I want and have it instantly. It's how I work but I find it much faster than clicking folders.

I must admit, I was a bit iffy about windows 8 until I actually tried it. Most people who slate it, have only used it for a day, or not at all, I see them the same way I see the XP purists who still argue that XP is microsofts greatest OS and will never upgrade.

as for 8.1, I didnt expect it to be as big of an update as it was, for example, some software that works on 8 no longer works on 8.1 as well as the usb driver for corsair link so those that thought it was just a little update to add a few things, check compatibility with your devices and software first!

If only there was a place to buy windows 8 pro so i could get the free upgrade to 8.1 pro lol
i cant find anywhere that sells 8 pro cheap :/

I am not sure how cheap you are hoping to find it, but as I posted in the other Windows 8.1 thread, a well known on-line supplier of mainly office products, is currently selling the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Pack (from XP, Vista or 7) for £47.68 which includes 'free' next day delivery via UPS.

These are shrink wrapped retail pack versions.

OEM v Retail? Can they both be transferred onto another PC as long as only one at a time is using the CDKEY?

Thanks

Since win8 oem = retail. There no longer is a retail version.
The oem license has been changed and no longer has the restrictions of w7 oem and before.

I was tempted to try 8.1 but my win 7 works fine for me, To be fair while I havn't used win8 i've seen enough to know it has a fair few features I dont want or need (Beside the stupid DX11.1+ lockout), I like my start button the way it is not that I use it that much as I have a map of all my folders in my brain "like the pros do" ;). Compatibility problems with old apps + hardware, not to mention the fact I DONT KNOW HOW TO USE WIN8 ! I have no idea about any of the options and tricks that most users know with their operating system(Has anything changed?) so taking that step of moving OS doesn't sit too well with me

then there is the price.

I didn't like 8 on my desktop computer but i can see how windows 8 would be superb for a tablet or a ultrabook with touch capability.

All the people mentioning £15-£25 windows 8 copies seen' t mentioning that these were upgrade version not the full version that this is, with this you don't need windows vista/7/xp like you do with the upgrade version(yes I know there's meant to be a method off installing the upgrade version without a previous windows but not everyone likes fiddling with the registry).
