Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

The Windows Store works better than I imagined. I've been playing the new Minesweeper and even got an Xbox achievement.

2gb is fine if you only use the web or write documents. win8 uses less memory I believe. Java registers as 2gb when I use it and often falls over, I'd use the 64 bit version but which browser ? Some need 8 but not most

win xp, I ran half a gig, 2 and 4 only turned common when prices came down a lot. It used to be hundreds to buy that much, so that only the last 5 years nowhere near release

128 I guess we can say yes in ten years along with realtime ray tracing in games or whatever.
moores law say x2 every 2 years. So say 8 is common now (its not)
16 2014
32 2016
64 2018
128 2020

Its not a low limit imo

WMC isn't included with any version of Windows 8.

You need to upgrade Win8 Standard to Pro with WMC, or from Pro to Pro with WMC. It'll be a free upgrade for WMC until end of Jan with the promotional pricing, so putting 2+2 together I suspect that Win 8 Pro will be the most popular SKU.

I knew it was a free addon for pro from reading the wiki page. I'm not really interested in it, never used it in previous versions so Win 8 Basic will be the way to go for me.

the WMC is only an add on for pro not basic though?

Also I've already used and setup a hyper-V vm running windows 7 so yeh prof is worth gettin

OEM will be a one PC licence, as always.

I was looking to see if anyone had seen a price so far.

So far as the upgrade versions are concerned, are they going to be limited to one PC or will it depend on the underlying old version fo Windows - i.e upgrading an OEM version will still be one PC whilst upgrading a full version will allow the upgrade to be used on another machine.

One upgrade is one upgrade. You couldn't use one upgrade license to upgrade two concurrent retail boxes, for example.

Whoops, no, I didn't mean that! I meant if I got an upgrade version fro my present machine, could I rebuild the whole thing and keep the upgrade licence. The Windows 7 licence is for a full (not OEM) version.
